Hi I have a 58 Cooper D and for the last 2 months or so my start stop hasn't been working properly. The car will cut out as normal but restart almost immediately?
Possibly related but just another couple of questions, I took my car in for a service about 3 weeks ago and was told one of my injectors was leaking and needed replacing and that if I paid for the labour BMW UK would pay for parts. Now I'm not the most technically minded but surely I'm better off getting the seal replaced elsewhere as oppose to the whole injector as the labour is £240?
Also I am noticing a lot of squeaking coming from what seems to be my rear suspension, could this be my anti roll bar bushes?
Thanks

I experienced similar symptoms to you, with the stop start system cutting in and then restarting almost immediately.
I had eliminated other factors first such as ambient temperature, low battery level etc.
Mine turned out to be a faulty sensor to do with the brake servo.
Yeah I know it sounds counter intuitive !
But remember there is also the brake energy regeneration system, whereby the alternator charges the battery more during the braking phase than when the engine is under load, and hence impacts on the battery charge level, which is one of the major parameters for the start stop system to become operable.
The servo was replaced under warranty by the dealer, no issues since.
Squeaking rear suspension driving you nuts? mine did too. Symptoms just came on overnight.
It will probably be the shock absorber bushes 'drying' out, top and bottom. Tops were worse on mine.
Check that the bolts are centrally aligned first, ie. indicating little or no wear, hence not needing replacement.
If all is ok then just lube them. I used some penetrating oil initially.
This removed the squeaking straight away, but I am expecting to probably have to do this on a regular basis in future...............short of taking the bolts out and using copperslip or similar, before refitting.
Hope this helps.
Anti roll bar links started to squeak too. The noise stopped simply by holding this link whilst an assistant pushes the suspension up & down. On loosening th elink the top ball joint had plenty of white grease in it, behind the circlip rubber. However judging from the silvering inside the bolt hole, it looks like the bolt itself had been moving ever so slightly causing a metal on metal squeak. A few dabs of copperslip sorted this out. Reassembled and all now ok.

The stop/start system monitors all the relative cars systems to decide whether the stop the engine or not, low battery charge, air con on, engine temperature, etc etc, it wont stop it, so I guess a leaking injector might fool the system as the fuel pressure drops off slightly and it thinks theres a demand from the engine to go?
If an injector is leaking it might be false economy to just replace the seals, if you can get them that is, there might be some other wear in the jet for instance causing part of the problem, plus they would probably charge more for stripping, cleaning, fitting seals than just popping in a new injector?
These days they prefer to throw away and renew to repairing and fixing.

The 1.6 litre common rail W16 diesel is used in ford/citroen/peugeot cars and vans and is a very popular unit, therefore I would phone an independant diesel engine specialist and get a quote from them to change the injector seals and see how they compare. My local diesel specialists (Panda diesel)used to do our marine fuel injection pump calibration and injector servicing as well as trucks, cars, vans and taxis (Bosch diesel agents) so were very good.
Presumably fuel is leaking from the spill connection where excess fuel returns from the injector to the fuel system?
