I have a 2004 mini (non S) the list of problems could fill a book, but this most recent one has me scratching my head. the speedometer has stopped functioning, but I still have digital speed readout on the tach. I also have a low tire pressure warning light that is flashing. the tires are all inflated!!

last week I had to replace the alternator, a real joy!! everything else seems to be functioning normally.

something that may be related or not. about 4 months ago the switch panel for the windows/locks/DSC erupted in smoke and the rt window rolled itself down. the nearest MINI dealer replaced teh panel which went up in smoke three weeks later....

they took the car back and tested EVERYTHING and replaced the panel again. I have had no further issues with the panel although I'm reluctant to touch it!!

talked to the MINI service people today regarding the speedo and they advised me to get a new car. how's that for service!!??!!

HELP!!:

In addition to prev, post... the milage and trip meter still function. the cruise control still works.. speed is indicated on tach so speed sensor is still functional, speedo needle tries to come off the peg but can't. problem seems to be confined How do you replace the speedo unit??

according to my daughter who owns the car, the speedo cluster was struck by her laptop upon exiting the car, gauge hasn't functioned since..

any help would be appreciated...
