: Lowering my mini , best parts to use?

Hi,

Would be great if someone can advise me on what I need to get to lower my mini one.

Basically today I put on new 17 inch alloys with low profile tyres and now it just sits to high! I was thinking of maybe lowering her by 45mm but I really don't know what parts to get? Do I just need to replace the springs? And not the actually suspension also? And can anyone advise good parts to get please.

The work will be carried out by my local garage but they told me to source the parts myself.

Thanks

By switching from 15" wheels with 175/65 tires to 17" wheels with 205/40 tires you've actually lowered your car by 6.35mm ... but you've also increased the wheel gap by the same amount.

You can lower the car by 25-35mm with springs (Eibach or KW) but will need coilovers to go lower than that.

Many thanks for the reply Caveman,

I have now taken a second look at the car and I feel 35mm or even 30mm would be perfect.

Hey,

Just to see if someone can take a quick look at the link to check these springs will do the job for me , i think 35mm will be fine for the look i am after

Why not buy from a MINI specialist with similar pricing?

Lohen - Generation 1 Mini » Suspension » Springs & Dampers (http://www.lohen.co.uk/shop/products.php?cat=38)

Thanks caveman ,

Would rather go with a recommendation than save a few pounds! I will order from Lohen :)

Haven't yet decided to try and fit these myself yet  most people i speak to say its simple enough.

Can't wait to see her lowered though with the bigger wheels

Im also looking for some springs to buy, there's plenty of cheap ones on ebay but i really fancy these from minisport (only 5 mins from my house aswell)

Eibach Pro-Kit 30mm Lowering Springs - R50 One/Cooper - to 03/2002 | EIB10-57-001-01-22 at www.minisport2.com (http://www.minisport2.com/mini-parts/info_NMP10-57-001-01-22.html)

However they seem a little pricey but i guess you get what you pay for and they're still cheap compared to coilies and have good recommendations. Without knowing minis too well though i dont know if 30mm will be enough of a drop...?

Here's a pic of mine dropped around 35mm when it was on KW springs

I'm running 45 profile tyres & 17" rims so the wheelgap probably looks a little less than normal:)

Hey,

My KW springs have not arrived yet but thought i would post a pic of the mini at the moment and i think most will agree she will look much better lowered!

Its 17" rims but the low profile tyres are 40 instead of 45

These ones were powder coated when i bought them. You can if you take your time successfully spray your own , i would recommend using plasti-kote as its very very fast drying! touch dry in 5 minutes.
Some people don't even take the wheels off and just spray on the car, i found it easier to take off each wheel one at a time , cover the tyre and spray.
Using plasti-kote i did each wheel with 4 coats, if you take your time you would never know they were not done by a pro!

Here is my old wheels........

There has been a delay in the shipment from Germany to Lohen for my KW springs so will have to wait another week for delivery :(

They did however offer to refund my postage cost but since the lady on the phone was very polite i found this unnecessary.

Will post up pics as soon as i get the work done :)

Well got the car back today after getting the KW springs fitted :)

The gap between the wheels should be smaller but i have 40 tyres on instead of 45.

Very happy with the result though!

Would you mind me asking what you paid to have them fitted?
Thanks
Simon.

Thanks Simone :)

I got the full kit supplied, painted & fitted all done by Home (http://www.lloydblackpoolmini.co.uk/) , Lloyds Blackpool MINI are sponsors on the forum, give Chris in the parts department a ring, he's a top bloke & may be able to sort some side skirts out for you

Thank you for this :). I live in the Northamptonshire area but I shall try this when I get time :). I am looking to get slightly different ones to yours but I'll have to see what I can do.
