: Winding Tool or Clamp for pushing piston back?

The time has come for me to change the front brake pads on my Cooper. It is on a 58 plate (R56 I think) and I am wondering when pushing the piston back so that the new pads fit in, can I do this with a C-Clamp, or do I need to do it with a winding tool. I only ask this as I have seen a video showing someone using a winding tool to do it.

Thanks all.

You only need a windback tool for the rear brakes as they must rotate as well as compress in order to back off the handbrake along with the piston.

For the front brakes a clamp will suffice.

A rear windback tool if you need one is about £20.
