Hi all,

I'm new to this site as of today and was hoping that somebody would be able to offer me some advice.

Basically I bought my 04 mini cooper s second hand and was super excited to see that it had a harman kardon system. I have since realised that the system doesn't work with the aftermarket Sony stereo it came with (now replaced for a parrot asteroid) and also the previous owner has removed the amp (I've literally just found this last bit out). This is really annoying!

So it seems my only option is to buy a new aftermarket amp and speakers and re-wire the whole damn thing. Has anyone done this? and/or what would you recommend I do or buy?

Cheers

Alex

I did tis in my wifes Mini for her and just as you are asking. Hers came with the NK system and I left it all intact but just ran new 14ga wire through the body panels and through the boot in the doors. I put I Pioneer single DIN in hers. When I get a chance though I will lower the switches and build a plate for a custom double DIN

Hey weedahoe, thanks for the reply. I think keeping it intact is a good shout. Did you not have to use a different set of speakers to the stock HK ones, and presumably a new amp?

Was it difficult to run the new cables through the interior panels?

fishing through the panels was no problem. Using something stiff like a metal clothes hanger if needed. I did add a nice set of Kicker 6.5 coax in the front doors and added two small Kicker 8's in the rear for some bass. Didnt need a lot being the car is as small as it is

Cool. Its good to hear that its not going to be that difficult.

I guess ill save up the pennies and go of for a full new install then.

Thanks for your advice!
