Hi all,

R53 March 2006 Mini Cooper S

I'm new this site and wondered if anyone could help me. I've just got my car back from it's service today and have been advised that the outer skin on the driver's side exhaust is corroded and needs replacing. I have been advised that i need a full system at a cost of £1500. firstly is the correct or can i get a replacement for just the back box, the passenger side is perfect apparently! and if i do need a full system then can i get it cheaper anywhere else

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Hello,

I'm also new to the forums and have recently purchased a 2005 MCS.

I'm looking for a new exhaust for mine too, I have the same problem - the rest of the exhaust is in mint condition except the drivers side.

Its an absolute nightmare trying to find one that isn't going to be too pricy - I mean I've just brought the car can't afford it all!

If you find anywhere to buy one be sure to let me know!

Not that it's much help but I had the exact same problem this week. Also driver's side only, which is a bit weird. I'll probably end up with a Scorpion cat back system. Not cheap but £431 for a stainless steel system is better than the £700+ I was quoted for factory parts.

Hi guys, My girlfriend also has a MCS with the same corrosion problem on the drivers side of the backbox.

Rather than replacing the backbox I have thought about by-passing the corroded (drivers side) of the back box as there would still be one box in use. Would this work?

Its a stupid design if you ask me!

Or when the old piece is cut out it can be flipped round and welded to the remaining back box.

I cant believe a back box will give an extra 8bhp, as all the power is lost at the cat end.
