Hi just bought a mini cooper 2001 for the wife and have read about oil change on the MIDLAND gearbox how do I identify which box she has.

More than likely you will have the midland box fitted unless it failed previous and someone went to the expense of upgrading the box, this is not cheap at all and would need to be done by a specialist!

An obvious sign would be if it has 6 gears but other than that with the 5 shifter i am not sure how to tell , maybe the likes of mab01uk could tell you?

I would think this would have been something you would have been told when buying the car as it would be one good reason to buy a second hand mini first gen

Remember when changing the oil to use MTF 94 gearbox oil , you can get it from a land rover dealership as i did.
