I recently bought an 02 Mini cooper R50. It idles smoothly and generally accelerates perfectly. The only unusual thing I notice is an occasional hesitation or miss during acceleration from around 1,500 to 2,000 rpm.
Any ideas on what might cause this?
I'm not stomping the accelerator down and bogging/lugging the engine. And it's just a subtle but noticeable hesitation/misfire.
Car has 145,000kms and a performance air intake and exhaust.

Serious corrosion on #3 terminal on the coil pack. Cleaned it up and lightly lubed all the terminals with dielectric grease. We'll see if this removes the slight hesitation/misfire.
Maybe it exists somewhere already but for newbies like myself there should be a "100 things to know" about your Mini - and corrosion on the terminals is one of them.....any other obvious ones?

Still hesitates after cleaning terminals.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
Is this hesitation constant? what i mean is does it only happen once after a cold start or is it happening all the time throughout your journey?

The hesitation happens whether it's hot or cold. I think I'll have to do a compression check....

Why don't you try a bottle of good fuel cleaner. Cleans the jets and that. Worth doing anyway. If you've already done this check the plugs. It would of flagged up if it was sometime mechanical I would of 4t. Recommend fuel cleaner b4 spending money. Had it with a corsa so I put some cleaner in didn't fill the tank to the top so it was abit stronger because it was really bad. Done job.
Hope ya find out what it is
