Hi There,
I've just bought my first ever Mini, and I'm very excited! Actually its a 1st gen Mini Cooper 2004. You'll have to excuse me if I sound like I dont know what I'm talking about - I don't!
It's actually my first car, so I was hoping to get some very simple advice. The oil change light comes on when I switch on the ignition and the number
-1800 comes up along side it. I guess this means that its in urgent need of a change.
I need to know how I would go about finding a suitable garage to to the job right? I am keen not to be taken advantage of - I am a girl who doesn't really know what she is talking about so I know I am prime for being ripped off! What questions should I ask? Is it important that the garage is an official Mini dealer? Also, does anyone know roughly how much it should cost? Thank you!

Hey!

Welcome :)

An oil change is a very basic task and any garage should be able to carry this out with no problems , the worst case you might get with a bad garage is using cheap oil , try and get a garage that someone has recommended.

Thank you Harvey! Thats brilliant - very reassuring as I've been recommended someone close by. I spoke to the mechanic and he said that I can take my own parts and just pay for labour, which I'm thinking is a good plan!
I've read that I need to get Castrol EDGE 0W-30, do you know how much I should take?
Also, the mechanic mentioned bringing along my own oil filter - is this right? If so, what should I get?!! Are there any other parts I need before I take him in?
Thanks so much for your help - I'm totally clueless but this forum is brilliant.

I know what you mean about how much you love yours - mine has a name and my boyfriend is starting to get seriously jealous of how much I talk about him!
:D
