: Bush replaced now clunk noise? harvey94 Jul 2nd, 2012, 06:44 PM Hey all,
Well today my mini was in to get one of the bushes replaced and the tracking done afterwards, i know your suppose to do both at the same time but a previous garage did not  anyway , after getting my car back i have noticed that sometimes when turning the wheel i hear what can only be described as a clunking sound, this does not happen over bumps or anything , i heard it most when i was turning my wheel when reversing , it was very loud, obviously will take her back to garage in the morning but just incase anyone as an idea what this could be and could it be related to work done  its very intermitting harvey94 Jul 2nd, 2012, 07:13 PM Checked on here and found a thread on spraying white grease on the steering bearings , i stripped the steering column and done this , will take her a wee drive tonight and see, i am sure it sounded lower down but you never know. dasher1275 Jul 2nd, 2012, 07:17 PM sounds like a drive shaft or c.v joint problem
regards ash.. minicore Jul 2nd, 2012, 07:33 PM Had exactly the same thing, following the same work (albeit non-MINI) and it was a loose bolt somewhere around where the work had been done.
Most apparent with full lock on - tightening up the relevant bolt solved it. :) harvey94 Jul 2nd, 2012, 08:35 PM Well took her for a drive after spraying the colum , noise still there, thought it was just when turning but then heard it when just driving normal, it's a very loud clunk and 100% was not there before getting work done, back to garage tomorrow then :(. Definately coming from underneath Ryanjdover Jul 2nd, 2012, 08:57 PM Had something similar and was an engine mount. Worth looking at that possibility.

Sent from my Autoguide iPhone app minicore Jul 2nd, 2012, 09:09 PM I'd hedge my bets on a loose nut somewhere...
Let us know how you get on! :) harvey94 Jul 2nd, 2012, 09:21 PM Really hope your right minicore, spent enough on her for the time being. Macguyvic Jul 2nd, 2012, 09:27 PM Someone failed to tighten everything up after the work! harvey94 Jul 3rd, 2012, 05:58 PM Well it turns out as mentioned a few times above something was just not tight enough , got it back today and noise now gone but one thing i forgot to ask if you guys could please advise me once again!
Basically when i have been driving a bit and press the brake then release i just hear air, if you know what i mean? like you were spraying an aerosol can , it just keeps going , now my brakes work absolutely fine, i am assuming this is just trapped air? The garage above have not done any brake work on my car so this must have been there for some time , its only because i was driving with radio and blower off to listen for the clunk noise that i noticed it.
Is this dangerous at all? The Nun Jul 3rd, 2012, 07:01 PM The only place you would hear air hissing in the the braking system would be the vacuum system for the brake servo assistance, pressing the pedal will sometimes give a light hiss that will sound for a second then stop, but a permanent hiss generated after pressing the brake pedal would mean an air leak in a hose to the servo or vacuum pump perhaps? harvey94 Jul 3rd, 2012, 07:06 PM The only place you would hear air hissing in the the braking system would be the vacuum system for the brake servo assistance, pressing the pedal will sometimes give a light hiss that will sound for a second then stop, but a permanent hiss generated after pressing the brake pedal would mean an air leak in a hose to the servo or vacuum pump perhaps?
Thanks , 100% just keeps going , for example tonight in my driveway i sat with the engine at idle , press the brake down gently then let go , hisssssssssssss , it just keeps going , pressing the brake makes it stop, i switched off the engine and the hiss stopped after about 20 seconds later.
The sound is coming directly at the brake pedal
Does this require immediate attention? harvey94 Jul 4th, 2012, 10:11 AM Well i took the car back to the garage today , they tested the brake pedal and also took her for a spin , they have said the pedal is perfect and they feel there is no need for concern , the noise they say is the vaccum and though they could hear it they told me just to keep an eye on it and if there is any difference in the pedal or the braking then bring it straight back. | |
