: Blown gasket???

Hello everyone!

I have a Mini Copper S 05 plate. My radiator's expansion bottle blew up after the temp gage showed the engine overhearding.

I replaced the bottle/container, (after being told that a fault with the bottle is a common problem with this year of make), but there still seems to be too much of a preasure build up in the bottle. (temp gage not showing the engine as overheating this time. Oil has been topped up.)

When checking the oil it shows that it has turned into a brown-coloured sluggish/creamy type substance.
The exhaust is pumping out alot of white smoke/steam and leaking water.

I've been told that this could be the sign of a blown head gasket? Anyone else had similar symptons?

Due to time of night I've not been able to quotes from local garages. Can anyone give me a rough estimation of how much this would likely cost me to get fixed, if blown gasket???

Many thanks,

Mike.

Oil sounds like it has emulsified which happens when it mixes with coolant/water so head gasket is likely culprit.

Get a few quotes as this can vary widely with different garages and area of the country........unfortunately London is usually the most expensive!

Some replacement prices here:

It could also be the heat exchanger, best way to find out is to carry out a leakdown test.
Also look for a Delivery mileage head on ebay as we have changed 3 head last/this month. We are seeing more and more heads failing and not the gaskets.
