: ASC + T on broken roads

Hi All,

Just wondering if you can help me determine the characteristics of my car.

I have an R56 MCS 2007 with ASC + T and my problem is thus:

I get a clunk from the front when driving over broken roads/potholes. I took it back to the dealer and they said that no suspension problems existed and so I took it back hoping that all was well.

However, I still get the clunk, then this morning I decided to turn off the ASC+T and no more clunking over potholes/broken roads.

So should this system activate when braking over potholes/going round a corner over potholes? Am I just hearing the same clunky feel through the pedal that you get when the ABS is kicking in?

Can anyone explain what I am supposed to feel when the ASC kicks in?

Being new to Mini, I am amazed by the amount of faults on a 43,000 mile car and before I take it back in, I would like to know if it's just a case of the car performing as it should.

Cheers
Johno

I don't think there should be anything clunking! ABS is more of a pulsing once it kicks in.

cheers for the reply.

Hmm, in previous cars (audi/saab) when the ABS kicked in when braking in slippy conditions, it clunked as the pads lifted off and back on again whilst the wheels found more grip which was normal.

Just wondering if this is the same in the Mini

Your ASC is automatic stability control if I am not mistaken. Mine has DSC. What's odd is it stops when you turn it off. Can you feel the clunk? Does it feel like it's in the brakes or more like a metal clunk that you may feel through the seat and steering wheel? Does it clunk when going over a pot hole when you put you foot on the brake pedal? Without braking it still clunks?

Yes I feel it in the brakes and steering but also when accelerating round a corner over bumpy roads.

I've since taken it back in and had everything checked and nothing was found. So not only do I think it's something to do with the ABS and/or ASC, but also sitting in the back it seems as if there is quite a lot of clunking coming from the interior trim as well.

I don't know, I just hate having a car that I've paid a lot of money for to be rattling like a tin can that was made in the 80's.
