: DSC, ABS & Tire Warning lights on

Hello all, I've joined your site to hopefully solve some issues with my friends Mini. Now I've done some searching and found several threads with some of the issues but not complete information, and hoping to get better information I thought it best just to make a new post explaining the lights and when they come on.

Like I said I do not own the Mini, my best friend does and is getting annoyed by the lights lol.

It is a 2002 Mini Cooper (non-S) The DSC light, ABS light and tire warning light are all on. The airbag light is as well although I know the cause of that (blown right curtain airbag, previous owner)

Upon starting the car the tire warning light will flash for a few moments then stay solid. She has aftermarket wheels on so I don't believe it has sensors in them, that is if the Mini system uses internal sensors (I know some vehicle do not). If not how would I reset the system so this doesn't appear? Theres no audible sound when the light starts, is that a fault or does the 2002's not make a sound?

Next is the the ABS, DSC lights which come an at the same time. Now these lights are NOT always on, sometimes they will stay off for a while or come on right away. When off they will usually come on after going over a rough road. So my thinking is a intermittent connection or intermittent faulty sensor, now I'm just not sure where to look. Also when these lights are on under normal braking it will feel as if the abs system is kicking in sometimes, which is odd as I would think with the abs light on the system should not be coming on.

Most of my knowledge is with GM vehicles so I'm not so familiar with the BMW/MINI systems. Also during my readings I've discovered (or interpreted on my own) that the tire warning lights could be related to the abs/dsc system? Is that true or did I read that wrong?

Sorry for the length of my first post to this site. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) uses data from the ABS sensors. Most likely one of these has gone bad.

Thanks. I have a suspicion its the left rear wheel sensor, as I was driving today with all of the lights off. Hit a small bump with the left side tires only and after the rear going over the lights came on right away.

Does anyone happen to have information at what the sensors should be reading with a DVM?? Or any diagnostic info? Its only me in my driveway to figure this out, I dont have access to any BMW scanning equipment or im sure this would be much easier to solve.

Thanks.

I had same problem and so started scrolling through the forums. Everyone seemed to say it was the wheel speed sensor. Had it run through diagnostics and came up with front left wheel speed sensor. They cleaned it up and reset the system and the lights have stayed off so far. Have done nearly 600 miles since then and no problems.he said that if the sensor gets dirty it can relay the fault back to the computer which then holds it until it is reset.
Hope this helps!
