: Mini one intermittently won't start

Hi,

I have a 2004 Mini One. For the last few weeks it has randomy failed to turn over. Maybe 1 in 10 attempts fail. When it fails the car doesn't even try to start. Complete electrical failure, the dashboard lights don't even come on. Each time this has been fixed by locking and opening the car again with the fob remote... But when it does start after a failure the odometer is reset to 0! When it does start it starts with no struggle, so don't think this is a battery problem.

Today it happened again, but now the key fob remote (and the spare key) will not lock / unlock the car so the previous fix won't work.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?

Thanks for any help

Chris

Hi,

Double check battery terminals are fully secure , this happened to me once , total failure , it turned out to be my battery terminal.

Also if it is still the original 2004 BMW battery it will be nearing the end of its life. A cell may be breaking down and although it will sometimes start the car it is not always enough to power up all the other essential electrical items on a Mini.

The battery was replaced a few months back. Looks like one of the connections is a bit loose, hopefully that's all it is!

Cheers
