PLEASE HELP! Have just joined forum, can anyone give more info... have mini cooper s now 5ys old. 34,000 mileage. has had new timing chain & tensioner. not on warranty now has developed an ENGINE DEATH RATTLE. Have been to mini dealer, car going in tomorrow to diagnose prob. Is there a mechanical fault with the cooper s? Dealer suggested that this may the case!! :puzzled: can anyone add some extra help & info here? before BMW TRY and take ££££££"s off me.

If it has developed the dreaded death rattle after they've replaced the timing chain and tensioner, I would expect them to replace the part AGAIN free of charge.

In theory, that should resolve it; there are a few people on their 4th or 5th part - highly frustrating I'm sure anyone would agree, but I'm fairly sure the work has always been done free of charge, regardless of warranty?

May be a different story if you'd waited 5 years before having the fix done, but since you've had your car back for the fault already, I wouldn't worry too much about £££.

Of course, it could be something more serious (without wanting to worry you!), but I'd take it back to the dealer, tell them you don't intend on spending any money, and see what they come up with!

Thanks, minicore, it's going back to the dealer today. So will await autopsy results! They want £96 + vat for doing a diagnostic check. I will then do battle, It seems I am not on my own with this issue.

the car now is ready for collection, collecting tomorrow. THEY say it was the fan belt! could this be the case? £143.00 plus vat.
