Hello everyone,

Ive got two questions about the automatic mini :).

Do they do a mini auto in a 1.4 litre engine or is it just manual, because i can't find any?? Is there anyway of keeping costs down with a 1.6?
And are automatic's really bad at breaking down? I had my 2002 mini cooper for two years and all it did was break down in the end i had to get rid of it :'( i was so upset, in two weeks it went in the garage 3 times and the gearbox was going.
I spent £6,500 on the car and about £2,000 pounds on repairs from the computer not working right and the back seats wouldnt go down right, there was loads more lol.
I really want another mini i can't see myself driving any other car, maybe it was just bad luck with my mini, i was really hoping if there is some one on here who has had an automatic mini do they really break down so much or was it just mine?

Thanks Melanie :)

If you want a Cooper or One with an automatic transmission you'll have to buy a 2nd Gen model to avoid the CVT transmission.

As said avoid the early CVT automatic Mini's (like your previous) as they can be troublesome and very costly to repair as few independent garages outside BMW even understand them.

Go for the later conventional type Mini automatic (Mk2/2nd Gen)..... I think only manuals (Mini First?) came in rarer 1.4 engine, most Mini's are 1.6 whether manual or auto and running costs are similar anyway.

I fancied the 2 litre diesel auto, but I dont do enough miles to warrant having a diesel.
