Hi All,

Just looking a wee bit of advice. Just collected my mini 1 from a new garage after having front pads replaced but the care feels really strange. Thought I wasn't going to stop at first junction!

Brake pedal feels really soft and seems to need pressed in a lot before car will actually stop. The pedal will go completely to floor and I need to practically floor it before car will stop.

Should the brake not feel really sharp and almost jolt the car to a stop after the pedal is depressed a couple of inches after being replaced?

If the discs arent new and the pads are and the discs havent been deglazed to remove the shine then the new pads will take a bit more to bed into the surface of the disc, so you might get slightly reduced performance as the new pads bed down.
Try a few hard brakes to get the new pads hot, that might quicken things up a little?
However, the pedal might feel a little different due to this for a while but it should certainly not go down to the floor, if it does then get it looked at by the garage that did the job.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I was nervous about the service as it was the first one I had done a small independent garage rather than BMW. Also the price seemed too good to be true - £350 cheaper than BMW!!

The brakes are beginning to firm up so I think they just needed to bed in. I just was worried as they felt completely different from when I had BMW fitted brake pads.

So I'm a happy bunny £350 has stayed in my pocket and my brakes seem to be coming along nicely!!
