: Help! 2005 Mini won't start

Hi folks,

I have a 2005 Mini Cooper which has been having intermittent start issues - meaning that sometimes I'll turn the key and everything will come on (lights, radio, etc.) but nothing will happen. No clicking (or I'd think it was a battery), nothing. Usually, I'll try once or twice more and it will turn over and run fine.

Today - nothing. Tried a bunch of times - just won't start. Any ideas before I have it towed to the mechanic? This is my first issue with it (I inherited this car recently so I'm new to Mini-ownership) and I don't want to get run through the ringer.

Check connections to battery clean and tight, check battery is not failing sometimes one cell can intermittently fail and it could be nearing end of its life if still the original 2005 BMW battery. Ignition switches can also play up.

Thanks for your input. Here's a strange twist - we tried to jump start it just in case - didn't work. But then we were able to push start it tonight. Ran it for a while, then parked it back at home. Tried to start it immediately after turning it off - nothing again.

Will totally be watching that other thread too. Thanks!

Hi folks,

and I don't want to get run through the ringer.

Wrung through the wringer you mean, I think.

Yes, The Nun, I was mistaken in my phrasing, my apologies.

Did you have any advice about my Mini, rather than just my misused phrase?

I think you got your money's worth out of the current battery. Time to bite the bullet and get a new battery.

Thanks for your advice, folks. It was the ignition switch. They took it out to take a look at it, put it back in, and voila - started up 22 times in a row.

Good news! Could you also tell those on the TotalMini thread linked as it may help others there. :)
