: Mini dealership 'mis sold' insurance.

Six months ago we bought a mini from Milton Keynes Mini and we were sold Mini tyre insurance. We were given all the relevant paprework relating to this product including the mini tyre insurance helpline for if we got a puncture.

Then when we did get a puncture I called the mini helpline to find we did not have mini insurance. The dealership had in fact taken out the insurance with another company (nothing to do with Mini) with poor cover. It gave cover for 4 original tyres only.

The mini insurance covered 5 tyres over a three year period and the tyres did not have to be the original ones. A far superior policy.

When I contacted mini and showed them the paperwork they were not interested. I have subsequently taken legal advice and written to mini recorded delivery and they have failed to reply.

I am so angry that they are not interested. Has anyone else had a similar experiance? They were so helpful when we bought the mini but when we went back to them re mis selling this insurance they were not helpful or interested.

I will be taking this matter further.

They tried hard to sell me lots of add ons, insurance cover, tyre cover, paintwork protection, 500 quid for that 100 for this etc.
As most of us are well aware if an insurance company can find the slightest thing not to pay out they will, I never buy anything extra.
Looks like as your dealer went somewhere else not MINI recommended, but lead you to believe they had, you could be on to a good thing as far as claiming is concerned, stick with it.

Do you have a copy of whatever paperwork you signed? Who was the insurance cover underwritten by?

At the end of the day, it sounds like you didn't check the small print. Sure, you were talking about a certain level of cover... then you get to talking about price, some paperwork comes out, you sign it... but what exactly did you sign?

Why do you no longer have the original tyres on? Is this the first time you've claimed on the policy? How much did the cover cost you?

Going legal seems a bit over the top to me. Have you complained directly to your dealer, and suggested that you'll escalate the matter if they don't resolve the situation to your satisfaction? The prospect of a b*llocking from head office usually seems to spur most dealers into action...

Hi Joanna.

As mentioned above, if you've signed the contractual agreement (and they can provide a copy of this) which states the terms of the insurance and that it was with a third party and not with Mini then it is simply a case of you not reading it adequately and not down to mis-selling.

If the insurance was never suitable i.e it was for original tyres and yours were already replacements (or something along them lines) then you may have a case.

I work for a company who deals a lot with mis-sold insurance and this looks like a case of jus not understanding what your signing, I know it sounds harsh and I'm sure your angry with the situation but thought I could help with my experience.

You may have a much better case of complaining to the manager/ area manager and go down the bad service route.

I hope it works out for you :) :)
