Hi Everyone I've had my mini for year and half now and I had one year left of the free service from mini. Now the light has come one to say I need a service and went to a garage that was recommended to myself and they have said I need my rear brake's serviced (sorry not good with technical stuff) and my front's need done in 3,000 miles along with the regular stuff needed to service a car. Now I decided to book in thinking this is all fine and also to get front brakes done as well to save me going back in 3 month as i use my car for work now the cost has come in at £135 for the service and £328 for the brakes total £463 now I think is is very high (double what i expected to be honest) I have had my boyfriend (who owns a tvr and know what he's looking at) look at my car and he doesn't think i need my brakes done but says its up to me which is really not helpful. I have no idea what service was done last year so i am going to call mini in the morning to get some details from them on that service. I have to be honest I am totally at a loss on what to do so I found this site and really hope to get some good advice. Oh I have a Mini Cooper S 2008

Unfortunately the free servicing doesnt cover all that much and not what you would expect when someone says FREE servicing for 5 years etc.
MINI tlc only covers
Engine oil and microfilter at approx 18600miles
Engine oil, microfilter, air filter, vehicle condition check, fuel filter and spark plugs at approx 37200 miles
And one brake fluid change at 24 months for yours

It then says additional service items not included above and items requiring replacement or repair due to excess wear and tear or misuse are not covered.

So your brakes arent and one assumes if they need doing you have to pay BMW to do it and if you go elsewhere this might/could affect? the rest of the MINI free servicing, for what its worth?

Hey,

You say the garage was recommended, is it still a main dealer?

The price for the service is within an acceptable range , you don't say what brake work needs done? If its just pads then that's far too expensive but as I say is this a main dealer? Or just Local garage? get a second opinion if no happy and not from your boyfriend as by the sounds of it he doesn't know what to look for? No offence there but your brakes either need done or they don't.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong here but I am sure that even if you get the work done elsewhere then as long as they use genuine parts then this won't affect any warranty you have , I know my friend that always gets a new car every few years never gets it serviced at the dealer and has never had any trouble with warranty work, genuine parts and booked stamped.

This correct under European Law, although most Main Dealerships avoid telling you this fact for obvious reasons.......
