Problem is with clutches it's loads of labour as its a difficult part to change.

That said I have seen places charge 400 ish so maybe worth shopping around

Its the labour charges that always pushes the price up, just had my Land Rover done £1200 so 600 is half price, BMW charge around £140 an hour labour and MINI I believe around £110? so the mechanics tea break costs £40!
Buy a clutch for £60 and learn to do it yourself is the real answer.

plus £8 for the Haynes manual and you're at £68 :-)

A clutch does not cost £300 but i wouldn't pay just £60 for one! I had my clutch done on the exact same mini , cost me under £500 including gearbox oil change.

Its a labour costly job and on a 2002 won't be easy as bolts are bound to be seized up.

£600 is too much , shop around.

Clutch parts on a Mini of a decent quality brand and including the thrust bearing should work out around £150.......£60 may just be for a replacement clutch friction plate for a cheap job but the risk is that the work and labour will soon have to be repeated when the old thrust bearing and pressure plate, etc fail at a later date....

As said £500 is reasonable for the work involved of about 6 hours and parts, vat, London or similar areas will cost more, some garages drop the front subframe for access but others find it quicker and easier to remove the engine instead.

thanks for all reply i have got it to cheapest £400 include VAT which sound good but i heard that the clutch is quite hard to fix by searching this forum people had said that if people fit it wrong it could not last long again ?

i wonder how long my clutchs going last ? i might just wait till im abit older and get rid of it and get another car? or is it worth fixing ?

It is worth fixing and done properly with good quality parts should be good for many further years of service........get the gearbox oil changed at the same time though as gearbox bearing failure is quite common on the early Mini One/Cooper........

£600, that's nothing. Dealer quoted between £1,500 and £1,700 for my BMW motorcycle clutch:aargh:! Got it done by independent for £700
