Hi, I have put a deposit on a mini cooper s convertable 2005 reg - & I am told it has a jcw kit on it. The car has black grids on front but silver grids on the back - could someone advise me if this could be a jcw kit please ? Or should the grids on the back also be black mesh. also how would I tell if it has a jcw tuning kit? Sorry to be so naive....it will be my first mini & I know little about cars.

There was no JCW body kit for the 1st Gen MINI ... it was called an Aero Kit. The front bumper of the Aero Kit had black honey comb grilles and the rear bumper had silver mesh stickers:
164583 164584 164585
There were two different JCW Engine Tuning Kits for the 1st Gen MCS:
JCW Tuning Kits (1st Gen MCS) - The MINI Wiki (http://minicooper.wikia.com/wiki/JCW_Tuning_Kits_and_Factory_Models#1st_Generation_ MINI_Cooper_S)
These kits were individually numbered and based on the VIN of the car a dealer should be able to tell you which kit is fitted.

Cheers for the response! As I say I am clueless with cars - yet, the car I have left a deposit on in my opinion is well smart!! I just wish I knew a little bit more about the spec of it. I think I've bought a good un but who knows?? It is hot orange in colour with full black leather interior, spotless inside & out, 45,000 miles, 17 inch alloy wheels & I paid £6500 with warranty. What dya think?? I will download/ upload pics ?? As soon as. I also understand it has a supercharged engine rather than turbo....whoa I'm gonna luv it!! Oh & my husband says its a girls car ha ha ha; shame on him!

If it has JCW tuning kit there should be a badge with kit # on valve cover, and usually badges on front and rear of vehicle.

Cheers, I shall have a look when I collect the car. I'm really hoping it has the jcw tuning kit but if not - I'm sure I can live with it; or is possible to put one on even tho it's a 55 reg? Sorry for all the questions!!

Fitting a JCW Tuning Kit is outrageously expensive. The biggest bang for buck performance mod for a stock MCS is fitting a smaller (15% or 17%) supercharger pulley and colder spark plugs.

Thanks again for the advise. Sounds complicated so I shall probably give it a miss lol. The bloke I am buying the car from reckons it has a jcw & it cost around 2 grand, so hopefully he knows what he is talking about & it already has the full kit.

The kit (if you can still buy one) probably costs close to twice that ... and then there's paying for 11 hours of labor for fitting it
