Hi,

Recently purchased a R53 Cooper S and after a week a loud rattle/clunk sound suddenly appeared from the front end.

It only happens when driving and you take your foot off the accelerator. The moment power is applied the noise disappears, also applying the brakes reduces the noise.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Engine mounting.

Cheers for the response.

Thankfully it was nothing as serious as the engine mounting but it could have been.

When the car was purchased we had new wheels fitted and the locking bolts were the only bolts that had remained tightened. It is my fault because i was told to check and retighten after 25 miles of driving.

Don't just retighten, use a torque wrench and set it at 85-90 ft-lbs. Then redo in a week and 500 miles, then you will be OK. Aluminum wheels are torque specific and change on heat cycles. Then check periodically during oil changes.
