So one morning last week i can out to my beautiful r56 and found that the aerial mast on the roof had snapped off! was probably some drunk yobbo in south London jealous of my car that done it!.. :frown: so i ordered a new small bee sting replacement off ebay to screw in but i can seem to remove the rest of whats left of the old aerial! i thought i would have just screwed out easily like in older car when you need to go through a car wash....

So does anyone know the procedure of removing the mast from the aerial? do i need to remove the black plastic casing to access some sort of screw or bolt underneath?

Also by any chance, does anyone know where to get some center wheel caps for the R113 wheels? seem to have lost one :frown:

Thanks in advance! :nice:

The aerial usually just unscrews by hand so I'd get an adjustable spanner on that square nut and unscrew it that way. Got the bee sting on my mcs and looks so much better.

Yeah I have tried that but the nut just keeps going round and round... the aerial isn't broken at all as the radio works, so i cant get my head around removing whats left in the picture without having to take off the black casing?

Any other ideas?

or how I would go about removing the casing without scratching anything?

Thanks!

Well maybe if the aerial still works without a problem and its just the looks of it that now lets the side down, a bit of ingenuity could be needed, maybe find a piece of plastic or rubber sleeve, capped so one end is closed obviously, and push that on over what remains, sometimes a look around a DIY store can prove rewarding in finding something thats ideal for the job????

What about pair of pliers on the threaded bit and try unscrewing it that way. Can't think of anything else and don't think the answer lies in taking off the black cased bit.

Hope you sort it soon mate.

I have an alta stubby aerial and it looks brilliant!

We leave ours off so it doesn't get damaged or nicked, the radio works perfectly, it's in the boot if we are ever in a bad reception area.

Our Mini 'Sport' aerial fitted to our 10-month old Countryman has cracked at the base and BMW have just replaced it under warranty. There is an updated design which is slightly chunkier. Dealer said it was a 'known' issue which may be why there's been a redesign?

They still charge BMW GB 30-mins of labour to replace it though!! Would have taken most of us well under a minute to do.

Probably an agreed standard charge, the original might well be seized in place and take another 29 minutes to undo and refit.
If it was agreed they only charge for 1 minute then it takes longer the dealer would have to bear the extra cost themselves and that would never do Im sure.
