Hello MINI Owners,

We would like to invite you to join us December 7, 2002 for the San Diego Scenic Drive Run. Participants will meet at 7:45-8:00 A.M. in front of the Sears parking lot at La Jolla Village Drive, corner of Executive Way, San Diego.

This is a good opportunity to see San Diego's scenic places, meet new friends, and have a fun day motoring.

The plan is to motor from the La Jolla coast to the ferry landing in Coronado. We will have lunch at the Bay Beach Cafe with a 10% discount for our group. The Bay Beach Cafe provides the most beautiful view of San Diego Bay, has access to the beach, shops and the boardwalk.

If you have questions regarding this event AND to make reservations to attend, contact jceviche@yahoo.com.

Visit http://www.baybeachcafe.com to check out the menu.

Let's Motor,
Clover (MINIclo) and John (jceviche)

Showing up in a non-MINI has happened before. Mugami came to the last meet in his 4x4, because his MINI was hurt.

I am trying to organize a caravan down to the San Diego event from Orange County (right off the 5 and Redhill). If anybody is interested, please contact myself or Miniclo.
Caravaning is a great way to arrive at an event for the following reasons:

1. The scenery is always better when you are traveling with other Minis.

2 You never have to worry about arriving earlier than everybody else and standing around an empty parking lot trying to look cool.

3. Imagine how staggeringly great 5, 10 or 20 Minis will look traveling together. My God,the locals will think that highly intellegent life has invaded from beyond the stars!

4. Other people can take pictures of your car in motion and give you a copy!

5. You will be traveling with friends in case your trusty Lucas electrics decide to take a dump. Oh...wait, that was the old cars... never mind.

Anyway... I hope we can get some folks together to make the trip more interesting.

Cheers,
Eric

Okay... we have rethought the meeting place a little bit. We will be meeting at the Carls Jr at the 5 fwy and Lake Forest. It is straight ahead off the off ramp if you are heading south. Lake Forest is after the 405 joins the 5 so you can take either fwy and get their without going out of your way.
We will group up at 6:30am, then depart for San Diego.

Come on... waddya going to do, sleep in all day?
Lets Motor!

Eric

Afraid I'm going to just miss this one. Sherman is whole again and currently running through diagnostics. Should he check out 'ok' with the AutoDoc, he'll be home again next week. I look forward to future drives. There are a myriad of twisties just out of Orange County...

Had a great time at the San Diego Senic Run. All in all I believe we had about 24 cars, and we tooled around San Diego and La Jolla from the beaches to the hills. Weather was wonderfull if a bit chilly in the early hours (sorry east coasters, here that means a sweater or windbreaker!). Thanks to John (jceviche) for organizing this very well run tour.
:D

It was fantastic, 24 or so MINIs, a great drive, a great luncheon, and great friends. Gotta do this again, soon. Thanks to Jceviche & MiniClo for ramrodding this herd! The weather was great, and the sun was shining! I'll post pics soon! Nice to see everyone, including Rick, Dave, & Luis from the first SD Mini Lunch a few months ago! Nice to finally meet MiniG, we've been talking on the Boards for months. Long distance award goes to the lads from Central California!! Bye for now...

Thanks for the pics notpaddyhopkirk! I'm hoping we will be out there next year so we can attend an event:D

Now I am even more homesick - I've spent a lot of money at that mall:p

Looks like it was a beautiful day - nice, sunny, jacket weather. It was a balmy 7 degrees this morning here:mad:

See ya next year!

Thanks John, for setting this up. We enjoyed the company of the other MINIs and their owners, and your route was fantastic. Here are some more photos (http://erazone.com/album/scenicdrive.htm).

Yep, it was a blast. So much bigger than the last one! It was nice to match up some more names/handles with faces. Too bad you couldn't made the drive, UCSDxB0i! But, at least you got to see all the MINIs gathered in one spot. So tell us: what's it going to be? Electric Blue or Chili Red? :p

Speaking of colors, I really liked that Pepper White Cooper. I hadn't seen this color in the flesh before and I think it's fair to say the pictures in the brochure really don't do it justice. Really nice color.

I think the best part of the drive was through La Jolla, especially because we were able to hang together as a pack. A caravan of two dozen MINIs, uninterrupted, makes quite a visual statement. Lots of smiles & thumbs ups, lots of little kids jumping up and down, and several confused, jaw-hanging stares.

Having half the caravan get lost in OB was rather amusing (it happened about 2 blocks from my house. Heh, yeah, well... I guess wasn't paying attention either.)

As some of you may have noticed, I bailed out of the procession at one point (when I realized that I needed to pick up some dry-cleaning before they closed.) I'm glad that nobody followed me. I eventually caught up with everyone for lunch in Coronado, and when I crossed the bridge and saw all those nicely-spaced traffic cones, I thought "hmmm, I wonder if... ?" At lunch Rob told me that you all were on your best behavior and nobody went for it. Heh. Next time. They can't fit all of us into the paddy-wagon!

Thank you Luis for pointing out my leaking coolant reservoir - I've added it to the to-do list for my imminent 10k service.

Thanks Rick and notpaddyhopkirk for the photos - they came out better than my digital photos (once I bought batteries for it in Mission Bay), but I also shot a bunch of pix on a disposable, and when I get those back I'll post 'em if they come out OK.

And most of all, extra-deluxe thanks to John for organizing this thing. It was very well orchestrated, first-class event!

Whoo hoo! We'll motor over from Phoenix and join in one day (if you'll tolerate a Zonie MINI)!

Make sure your tank is full, your bladder is empty, and your batteries are charged.

Ches: Believe me, those cones were tempting. But as a CA resident you know that CalTrans and CHP take their safety seriously. Getting nicked for crossing the line would have spoiled all the fun.

Sign up with phoney-baloney information! Give yourself a fabulous identity - that's what I did. I think I said I was biteme@keepyourdamnspam.com or some such nonsense.

They're very nice photos, BTW.

And pick up your dry-cleaning ahead of time!

As a special treat, on my way out of Coronado, I got to see the center-barrier-gobbler machine for the first time. Anyone else catch this? Pretty cool machine - it's sort of a zig-zag shaped tractor thing, big ole sucker, and it trundles along at maybe 5-10 mph and picks up the concrete barriers and moves them over to the next lane. I always wondered how they reconfigured the Coronado bridge, and now I know.

It's a pretty specialized piece of capital equipment. Must have cost a fortune, but it probably takes them all of 15 minutes to do the whole bridge.

Great pics.
Not unexpectedly, many people have signed into ImageStation using variations of "butt" and "butt@butt.com". I ended up in the butt06 and mrsbutt@butt.com range! Easily amused, always.
