: Cold weather warning beep

Hi everyone. I have a quick question (apologies if this has been posted before and I have missed it).

My mini cooper is now a year old - the birthday party was great...... A friend of mine has just got a new one and when she starts the engine it beeps if the temperature is 3 degrees or less. Mine doesn't do this. Is this only available on newer mini's or is mine poorly?

Cheers
Lisa

This will be added to the FAQ's soon, and has been asked a lot, most commonly in the faults and fixes forum.

It's a cold weather warning at 3/37 degrees and it seems to have been introduced around mid-March 2002.

How do you know it was built March 1, 2002? I thought all cars only had a Month/Year build date - not the particular day.

Thanks to this forum, now I know what that beep is for. I've been asked many times and I didn't have a clue. :D

BTW, since my garage is about 41 degrees on really cold days, it took about the same distance motoring to get the beep. So as I passed by the same neighbor's house . . . Could it be? Naaah:D

Then it worked! The warning is purposely above the freezing point of water as that is when dangerous 'black ice' on the road may unexpectedly form (just when the driver may be looking at the temp readout and assuming no worries about ice in the road). Sneaky, eh?

My One has this warning too and I was impressed with the 'bong' quality - not an annoying 'beep' if you see what I mean. (SAD I know).
Probably a BMW 'bong' - sounds just like the bong a 5-series I was in once used to make when you went over 70mph - glad the MINI doesn't do THAT....!:D

At least it's not a voice, and you just know it would of been female. LMAO :D :D :D

What is the purpose of this cold warning beep? Is it a reminder to warm-up the car?

Why 37 degrees F?
32 degrees F makes more sense (freezing point). Just wondering. ;)

It is a warning that "black ice" may be forming on the roadway, and you should slow down. The roadway, particularly bridges, will freeze before the air temperature reaches freezing.

This FAQ explains it! (http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22396)

Ice may still be present even if the current temp is just above freezing point.
