This seems a suitable moment for the man in the pepperpot to explain his MINI2 moniker. I mean, are we talking 'Herb Garden' as Mr Spoolin' (possibly unwittingly) suggests, or 'Fawlty Towers'...?

I have to say Basil, I'd assumed the latter, and have a mental picture of you in 9 months time parked at the side of the road beating seven shades of sh;t out of your fatally flawed Cooper S with a birch sapling wrenched violently from a nearby suburban pathway

Some people may well wonder what the hell I'm talking about:o

couldn't have said it any better rich... :D :D :D

PS. Since MINI (or rather BMW) is German, don't forget: whatever you do, don't mention the w.r ;)

Well, it's no fun if you have to explain it! But here goes:

It's reference to a very poplular old BBC comedy series starring John Cleese as Basil Fawlty, proprietor of the "Fawlty Towers" hotel. In one episode his Austin 1100 car (big brother car to the classic Mini) fails him and out of sheer, complete and utter frustration Basil begins beating it with a tree branch to punish it. -- Doesn't sound like much, but you've got to see it to appreciate it. :)

Geezzz. there's even a Corgi model car of this scene, complete with a Basil Fawlty figure holding a tree branch:

After I got home from work yesterday, I had to sit and watch the DVD again (and again, and again).

I'm almost afraid to say.....I like it. Frogeye Sprite'ish. Thats what I liked about the new mini, felt like my old 1969 MKIV Sprite........wonderful car. Leaked like a sieve....unreliable.......pulled to the left.......windows that went down by themselves.

Thank goodness some things never change.
