: Topgear Mistake Bonnie Scotland May 12th, 2003, 03:31 AM Anyone see topgear tonight and spot the obvious mistake
When Clarky was asking Vinnie Jones what car Wayne Rooney drove he said one of the cars was a cooper, well, the picture showed a cooper s.
Trivial i know, but just had to send him an email :p
Bonnie Scotland Martin L May 12th, 2003, 03:36 AM ...and the fact that Rooney can't even drive yet :p KlausR May 12th, 2003, 03:55 AM I can´t count the occassions when people refer to the "Cooper S" as "Cooper". Never mind, they will know once they look into the exhaust pipes. :p
Klaus stephen_cy_wong May 12th, 2003, 03:57 AM .......and the letter box hole on the bonnet:D :D Dark Silver S May 12th, 2003, 04:12 AM stephen, don't you be posting any letters in my S! oldnell May 12th, 2003, 04:22 AM Aren't the Cooper and Cooper S both Coopers?
It's a bit like having a Ford Fiesta 1.3LX but being offended when somebody calls it a Fiesta.
I know we all differentiate between models and options, but non-MINI-owners don't. To a lot of people, they're all MINIs. LMB May 12th, 2003, 04:38 AM Alan.....
Rooney does drive a Cooper S, it was only a slip of the tongue from Vinny.:) KlausR May 12th, 2003, 04:57 AM I´m always wondering how many people here in Germany think that Mini Cooper is a fixed expression and not the specific version of a range of cars. Even the original Mini was not always a Cooper, but people are associating everything around the Mini with Cooper.
Klaus Fullupo May 12th, 2003, 05:01 AM Im still too exited after seeing that gorgeous mclaren. Wot id give! that 'cat' 4x4 thingy was crazzzzy! MINIALEX May 12th, 2003, 05:39 AM I think Rooney bought a Cooper acetonic May 12th, 2003, 08:54 AM They are both Coopers. The "S" is just to let you know it's a supercharged model. Tone May 12th, 2003, 03:05 PM Yep - clicked that, straightaway. Also, unless am very much mistaken, wasn't it that tired old publicity shot that has been doing the rounds since the car was introduced.
(Slightly off topic, a Sunday supplement had an investigative article recently, whinging on about the taxes which have to be paid when IMPORTING cars to this country. And which car did they use to illustrate the cool cars which can be obtained from abroad? Yeah, you guessed it - the S!)
Enjoy. KenL May 12th, 2003, 04:40 PM Originally posted by KlausR

Klaus
I'd go along with that. Both me and my wife have people say "I like your MINI Cooper" even though we have a ONE.
Needless to say I was deeply hurt that someone would insult my ONE by referring to it as a Cooper ;) :D :D :D :silver: Bonnie Scotland May 12th, 2003, 04:55 PM Originally posted by oldnell

I know we all differentiate between models and options, but non-MINI-owners don't. To a lot of people, they're all MINIs. I merely posted this topic for a laugh, highlighting that the all knowing Mr Clarkson didn't know the difference between a cooper and an S.
The cooper and the s are defo not the same car and to compare it against a fiesta, well....
You could always try buying an S at your local dealer and mention that it is only a cooper and therefore the same price :p

I see what you're saying, but I doubt my insurance company would buy that.
;) Telboy May 12th, 2003, 08:06 PM I think Rooney has got a Cooper as when they first had "the scoop" in the daily mirror they gave all the specs of the ccooper such as top speed of 124mph etc but again showed a pic of the Cooper S!!!
He's got an Indie blue one with a white roof (everton)
Also has any one else noticed that Mr. Clarkson has got the Cooper S under the "Sub-zero" part of his cool wall but ive yet to spot the Cooper or plain Mini One! I guess he's just chosing the top of the range car - i guess this makes sense otherwise the car would be full up with fiesta's!!!! KenL May 12th, 2003, 08:14 PM Originally posted by Telboy

I'm sure it's the MINI that's sub-zero. I remember when the stupid board thing was first on and he just said new MINI not just the S Tonyt3 May 12th, 2003, 08:26 PM Originally posted by KenL

It is the Mini thats sub zero, not just the ONE or whatever. Many people rate the ONE as actually the best of the bunch as it sticks to a more logical price bracket....
Also, they don't show other 'models' do they (the board would be pretty full if they showed all the various Mondeos after all!!!
As for Jeremy saying it was a Cooper, not an 'S', then either he was just being polite to Mr Jones (not a bad idea really) by not correcting him (think about it....) or
he was just being another lazy journo. Most of them are, and would rather copy someone elses mistake rather than actually looking up the facts themselves.
Since he started his regular 'Sun' column, he has kind of lost the plot in some areas. Makes me wonder that perhaps he is now such a busy boy maybe he has a team of writers that put some of this together in his 'style'? Perhaps? Nameless May 13th, 2003, 02:36 AM And I've got a shaggy old Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8i. Don't you dare call it a Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8
S? Coop? One? - They are all great !
Smiff, feeling under the influence of ice cold Guinness in the chilly north east of blighty.
Now where did that monkey go.... morrisminiminor May 13th, 2003, 02:56 AM In the last series, Clarkson told us that the easy way to upgrade a MINI One to the same as a Cooper was by getting it chipped. We all know what a 'shile of pite' that is. He generalises too much. Quite entertaining show though!

I find him really annoying. I tune in looking forward to seeing some great cars but all I get is p*ssed off at the crap he talks.
I much rather have someone like Tiff Needel on it. A decent bloke who's also a great driver unlike Clarkson.
Did anyone see Tiff driving the Boxster on last week's 5th Gear - very impressive. Nameless May 13th, 2003, 04:08 AM Are we forgetting VBH lads? Fullupo May 13th, 2003, 05:59 AM Any ideas who 'the stig' is? ive got a feeling it will be tiff needel anyways! my theory anyway, any other offers? oldnell May 13th, 2003, 08:05 AM The Stig is French. KenL May 13th, 2003, 02:04 PM Someone has already revealed the identity of the Stig on here

Don't be silly, its not Tiff..... he would have crashed something by now if it was Tiff! M0D May 13th, 2003, 07:07 PM Heard on the radio this morning that Rooney has failed his driving test for the 2nd time - poor ***!
(Hee hee!) Tone May 13th, 2003, 08:13 PM Wasn't the I.D of the Stig revealed in the last prog. of last series? I missed it. So, is this a new Stig? What the heck does the word mean, anyway? nickworld May 13th, 2003, 08:25 PM It's from Stig of the dump - a kid's book about some 'charmingly' scabby pikie kid. Now synonymous - for me at least - with anybody a "bit below par". nickworld May 13th, 2003, 08:52 PM Heh heh... | |
