: Looking for some Californian recon.......

I just made a wheel purchase by phone from an online store. I did some minor research on the store prior to the purchase and felt confident, but the whole thing is starting to seem sketchy.

Anyway, if someone is in the El Monte , CA (east of LA) area, I would be VERY appreciative if they scoped out the following address:

Website: www.wheeloptions.com

Discount Tire Center
10707 Valley Mall
El Monte, CA 91731

The directions are as follows:

- Take 10 E

- Exit Santa Anita : make a left turn if you come from West ; otherwise, make a right turn when you exit.
- Right turn on Valley Mall (street name)
- Go down 5 seconds and Discount Tire Center is on your left-hand side.

Let me know what you find, if the address is legit, if the place is an actual customization shop, etc.

I don't want to be burnt and would very much appreciate the gesture. Send me a PM if there is interest.

Moved this to the Southern CA forum, where you are more likely to get an answer.

I don't know about this particular location, but Discount Tire is a chain around here. I've never heard anything bad about them, but that doesn't really mean much. If I'm in the area anytime soon I'll try and scope it out, but it's not especially close and I rarely if ever have any reason to go over in that area, so no promises.

Just to confirm PigLick's statement, Discount Tire is a reasonable size chain, but I also do not find myself in El Monte very often. Since wheels are a part of their core business, the sale should have the chain's backing as long as you maintain records.

NO NO NO. Discount Tire in the LA area is different from Discount everywhere else in the US. Hang on a minute while I find you some info...

Found the link I was looking for:

Personally I would avoid these guys!

But if you do go with them, be very careful.

I've already ordered rims (no tires, they wanted a bundle). That link pretty much confirmed my experience. Vic (same guy even) was very short with me too and seemed to get agitated by the simplest of questions. He even made some remarks in a different language like in the link. I'll be inspecting my rims when (if) they come. I have a feeling they won't be packed very well...:(

Wow, thanks for the heads-up Coati. I'd feel bad if he went there based off of my input and then got screwed, although I did admit I didn't know anything about that particular location. I'd also avoid going there after reading that. goin440, maybe you could check some of the other Discount Tire stores to see if you could get a similar deal?

Actually, I already knew before hand that this wasn't the national chain. I saw that Discount Tire = America's Tire around LA. There are still a few Discount tire stores though. This along with my experience with Vic contributed to the sketchy feeling. I will have that feeling until those rims are on my door step in pristine condition. :( I've been researching the rims for a while and have a good idea of what dealers ask. This place's bid came in so low to the competition, I figured why bother going else where.

I'll keep you guys in the loop and post some picks of the install;) Thanks for the support all. According to Vic, I should get them on the 28th.

I'm surprised that the "real" Discount Tires (ie the chain) haven't done something about this. Even if the guy was reputable and gave good service, most businusses wouldn't want another unassociated business to share their, but especially so when the guy is rude and displays bad business practices...

Anyway, good luck with the rims. Hopefully they'll get to you just fine, and on time, and you'll end up with a good deal after all =) Maybe he sells them so cheap online because anyone who actually goes in and talks to the guy turns around and walks right back out :p

The site for the real discount tire center is Tires.com not that other site
