: I Can Hear The Violins Now... Kirstykix Jul 4th, 2003, 09:03 PM A TOTAL w*nker drove into the side of my baby last night. Dented the panel behind my door and scratched all down the side and scraped my alloy.
Came up to a roundabout, left hand lane for going left and right hand lane to go right. He was in right hand lane, me in left, then he decided no he wasn't going right and before checking to see if the coast was clear, or may i just add indicating, he pulled out straight into the side of me. ARGH! I've had my car for 3 fecking months and now she is damaged. His car bearly had a scratch, an old Vauxhall Astra, nice maroony colour which is also down the side of my car... i could SCREAM! Infact, i have already, many times. brave1 Jul 4th, 2003, 09:09 PM Ah Kristy- sorry to hear that! Are you ok..I mean you weren't hurt in the accident right? Did the dofus have insurance? I hope it gets fixed good as new for you very soon! Good luck! Paul Jul 4th, 2003, 09:10 PM After having a transit can AND another car (on two different occasions) drive into my old MINI Cooper on a roundabout, you have every sympathy.
:( Lorri Jul 4th, 2003, 09:16 PM OH NO! What a s**t thing to happen. What did you say to him?? or is it unprintable :(
Hope you get it sorted soon... keep on screaming and let it all out Martin L Jul 4th, 2003, 09:22 PM Sorry to hear about it Kirsty :(
Make sure you take your car to a BMW garage to get repaired ;)
It protects your warrantee for all the replaced/repaired parts :) Kirstykix Jul 4th, 2003, 09:30 PM Thanks guys! I just had to let my anger out to people who would really understand, and you guys have come up trumps!
I tried to control my anger when i got out of the car, i was shaking SO much i could hardly write. No one was hurt - thanks for asking - and i'm waiting for the claim for to come through. He said he had insurance but no details. I got everything else though so hopefully it should all be sorted out. They have already booked my car into an approved garage, i can get two other quotes but if for some strange reason liability went my way i would end up footing the bill. I will phone up mini though as i would prefer it to be done there, naturally.
On my way to work this morning i drove passed a mini dealer, really felt like walking in and asking them if they could swap it for a new one! Harpo Jul 4th, 2003, 09:47 PM Hope all goes well Kirsty.
The thing that annoys me is that I (and everybody else) has to dip into our wallets every time our insurance premium is renewed, so that this low life can drive back to the sewer from whence he came.
Not that it would have been of help under those circumstances, but I have had the daytime circuit activated on my car. I don't want anybody saying that they didn't see me! d.griffiths Jul 4th, 2003, 10:08 PM Originally posted by Harpo

I wondered that too :p dietcokeplease Jul 4th, 2003, 10:51 PM Daytime running lights - like Volvos and the like. RedUn Jul 5th, 2003, 02:08 PM I'm really sorry to hear that.
After you got his details you shud have put his head through his windscreen and drove off:) Speedd Jul 5th, 2003, 03:38 PM Hey Kirsty,
just read this and sorry to hear the bad news:(.
Hope all goes well and your baby is back on full form very soon.

Haha, i would have loved to have rearranged his face and done some damage like he had just done to my car, but i felt that the GBH charge and my car being dented would have been too much to handle in one evening!
I can still hear him saying sorry over and over in my head and me screaming at him that it won't fix my car! Kirstykix Oct 1st, 2003, 01:24 PM Well, this is my first post since July about my car and the dent is STILL there!!! Had major grief trying to get it repaired. Insurance company has mucked me around a lot as i wanted to only get her repaired at BMW and as the other party hadn't admitted liability i couldn't just go ahead and do it apparently. I had to **** around and get two estimates from two separate dealers and even though now finally i have my car booked in, an independent engineer has to be sent to check out the damage before the repair can go ahead! Also, now the other guy is blaming me! HELLO?! I've been told that he says that i tried to squeeze between him and a parked car, and then i "scrapped" my car along his front left bumper. Impossible unless i drove and cut him up and even then the damage he is claiming is crap! I would have done more damage to his car than a scrapped left bumper. For the fact i have a dent in my door means that he must have driven into me with some force or i would have gone passed him and then turned into his car. AND why on earth why i try to squeeze my pride and joy through a gap that isn't clearly wide enough, i wasn't that desperate to get to sainsburys! Total nightmare! obehave Oct 1st, 2003, 01:47 PM Sorry to hear that the process is getting dragged out. Believe me I understand.
Good luck AidenL Oct 1st, 2003, 03:00 PM Oh-no..........the bugger, I hope it gets sorted for you...........:( davidac Oct 1st, 2003, 03:32 PM I have had that same experience. I was run into from the side by an SUV coming off a side street running into me on a through street. Her story to the insurance company was that I had turned into the side street and then was backing out into the main road. Yeah right. At least it wasn't in my forthcoming MCS. Glad no one was hurt. Have any witnesses. Lucky for me, the girl told the police the real story, only later had made up somthing for insurance. ice Oct 1st, 2003, 03:51 PM Wow Kristy that sucks. I'd have him killed. MiniAdventurer Oct 1st, 2003, 04:36 PM aw that sucks... hope it all gets sorted out for u soon. someone else asked if there were any witnesses? sometimes saying sorry at the scene equates to admitting liability, or so someone told me. DaveN Oct 1st, 2003, 04:41 PM Sorry to hear about this experience - everyones worst nightmare for their Mini I'm sure. Always worth carrying a camera (disposable or cheap digital) in the car for such occasions so you can record the "facts" and show the insurance compny the road layout etc. Hope you get it sorted.
Dave MiniAdventurer Oct 1st, 2003, 04:43 PM that camera thing is a good idea... would sort out a lot of insurance complications. scooperman_uk Oct 1st, 2003, 05:23 PM u should have called the rozzers there and then... said something like he was displaying threatening behaviour and they would have been there straight away and taken statement of liability. when ive have accidents and there seems to be any chance of bull******** or trying to get out of it. i call them in. normally they are there really quick if u mention "u fear that your going to be victim of roadrage violence..
oh and sorry to hear about... hope you baby gets well soon... Kirstykix Oct 1st, 2003, 08:17 PM The only witness i had was my friend who was sitting in the car, they have sent her a form to fill in. Thing is I could have done the form for her as she's my friend, i really don't think it will be that valuable at the end of the day. Camera thing is a great idea, but these ideas always come to you after the event has happened, i.e i should have stopped and grabbed someone off the street who would have seen it happen - independent witness - , should have called the police and I should have smacked his head against the side of my dented door while he was inspecting the damage he had just caused and apologising... but now it's too late. I'll remember *if* anything like this should happen again, fingers crossed it won't, i more worried about the resell value of my car to be honest, i would like a Cooper S at some point next year, I hope this little knock doesn't make it lose too much. jasonfields007 Oct 2nd, 2003, 10:07 AM Well, this is my first post since July about my car and the dent is STILL there!!! Hi Kirsty,
We had exactly the same problem! Got the car repaired at "an approved reparirer" called "5 star (cockups)" by NIG insurance. They completed f**ked the car up and did £2k's worth of damage to the bodywork. It only wen't in with about £1k's worth! So we just got it repaired 2 months later finally at Altwood Tring BMW who did a sweeeet job on it... shame we didn't go there in the 1st place but the insurance company made it so difficult to you to your own dealer.
Good luck getting your car sorted.
Regards

Our fleet insurance company insists that all our vehicles carry a camera and an accident report form, for that very reason - it is the way forward......... ;) Kinster Oct 2nd, 2003, 10:46 AM Well, this is my first post since July about my car and the dent is STILL there!!! Send him a court summons, that would make him take the blame :) SoggyCornFlakes Oct 2nd, 2003, 10:57 AM Sorry to hear this Kirsty :(
Kinster is right though - legal action will sort it. I was hit up the back end of my old car by a van on a roundabout, but he still declined responsilblity despite going into the back of me. My insurance company took legal action and the day before court was due his insurrance agreed to pay up - they play a game of brinkmanship and will try to keep a hold of monies until the last moment so keep persevering.
I also very nearly got hit this morning by a jerk in a van crossing lanes on a roundabout, and when I hit the fhorn he had the cheek to give me the two fingered salute etc - it's not like you can miss seeing a LY MINI   Kirstykix Oct 3rd, 2003, 07:44 AM Well now I have his claim form and have to send a letter with my comments on what he has stated to my insurance company. I would love to write "He is a ****ing liar." But somehow i don't think it will solve matters. I also have his address and drive past his house frequently, the temptation to put a brick through his window... I was thinking about a court summons but I really wanted to do everything without getting the law involved. I'm not giving up though, i will fight this to the end! Gavwad Oct 3rd, 2003, 09:24 AM Keep persevering. You have a witness remember to back up your story. And him saying sorry at the scene is his admittance that he was liable for the accident. I'm sure the insurers will work out that he is b*****itting, and probably (well hopefully) shop him for submitting a false claim. scooperman_uk Oct 3rd, 2003, 09:30 AM thats one reason i went with BWM insurance, they will specify u get the car repaired at the dealership. protects your warranty and also protect u from cowboy repair centers. i have one car go back 5 times. wrong colour respray, damage to interior, damage to trims, broken parts not replaced etc.etc.etc.... re your situation. get the quote and take him to small claims.. i know its a civil action, but your insurance company should be sorting this out... bricks through windows solve nothing IMHO appart from immediate satisfaction and stress relief.. | |
