I'm due to pick up my JCW MCS next week - due to a problem with paperwork although the car is ready I can't collect until the middle of the week.

I'm thinking of getting driving lights fitted but would like to get an idea of how they would look on a DS/Bk MCS (and whether 2 or 4 would look better) - I've spent time searching the galleries unsuccessfully but if anyone can let me know the pro's and cons of driving lights along with a pointer on photos I'd appreciate it. :D

I vote for 2, I've yet to see a color they don't look good on

I'd go for four - they look well smart  but only if they're evenly spaced! :D

Also before you order 4, make sure installing them doesn't interfere with the air flow into your bonnet scoop. ;)

Hmm Good point - I've seen some places offering a bar to put the lights on but I guess this would cause more of a problem.

Theres one in my gallery

I think driving lights are a must as the standard headlights are quite poor, having seen 4 lights on a few cars now i think they look ok and they will certainly brighten the road ahead better than 2.

Thanks for the link :D
I have specced Xenons so I have to be honest and admit this is more about looks than illumination. :D :D

Four does look good - but is that just the boy racer in me that like them. (Too many hours racing scalextrix minis in my childhood!) :D
Two has the desired effect in an understated way - after all there are v. few modern cars that can carry of spots these days.

Going to lie down and get a sense of perspective! :D

Erm, it gets just as dark as any where else in the mainland UK, especially during the winter, i don't have the luxury of driving around major city streets and link roads to other areas which are normally illuminated. My journeys are between small towns and villages where they actually turn the lights out to save on electricity.

I think I know why 4 lights are rare - I've just spent 20 minutes on the phone to the local dealer and nobody can tell me how much it would cost. Spoke to the service dept. - £343 inc VAT was mentioned but when I checked to confirm if that was for 4 I got "dunno". They suggested I speak to parts (I think they had got bored). Parts reconned £145 incVAT - when I asked is that for 4 they went "dunno". But saved things with a super helpful & re-assuring, "I suppose so".

I had planned to get the car booked in but I'm not further forward.

I think 4 look better, they are fairly small and the 4 give more impact than 2 :)

I would agree- I was a bit concerned that it was a bit too "boy racer" but I really do like it. :D Especially as I've done a few photoshop mock ups. :)

For a while I was concerned I was just overcompensating for the very boring colour scheme / wheels etc, but now I'm sure its really the whole Scalextric thing when I was a boy! :p

If I can find a dealer who can answer simple questions I will get 4 fitted. :D :D

My thoughts exactly! I've seen 4 lamp kits at £200 and I don't expect MINI to be any cheaper than that.

I have 4 spot lights on mine fitted by the dealer who had to pick himself off the floor when i asked for 4.

It cost me about 600 quid ish - ouch

I try not to think about how much it cost me coz i'll only get depressed!! I think about how great they look on the car and how much light they put out. Your only young once eh!!

I'm not a boy racer and i don't think they make the car look like that - just an added aggression i think heres a pic:

Nice pic and v. nice car! :D :D

I know what you mean - 4 spotlights /aka. driving lights / aka. foglights. How hard is it to understand? From your comments it sounds like the £343 is for 2 fitted. :(

I am very keen on 4!! :D :D But will think of it as a safety investment! :p

I'm taking in the photo - maybe that will help them understand!! :)

good idea take the photo in!! My dealer fell on the floor when i told him what i wanted!!!!! They had never fitted 4 before and never thought it possible so i was chuffed to bits when they managed to do it.

I'm down at Silverstone for Trax on sunday if you want a look in the flesh.

I bought my own set of 2 lights for my previous MINI and it came to around £140, but that was shopping around and buying a set of Cibie lamps. The dealer quoted me £180 + labour to have the OEM ones fitted, That was just for 2.

I have since ordered the Rally Light bar that comes with 4 lights for £199, it works out cheaper per lamp !!!!

It arrived yesterday, so when I get back from the sand pit in a couple of weeks, i'll get them installed and post some pics, but I think they look better than 2 also I hope they are more stable, as I found the ones mounted on the bonnet, did seem to bounce a bit (trouble with living in the country roads are not flat, but they are twisty !!)

Also the OEM brackets are only designed for 2 lamps, Bcos I had a look at trying to use them to mount 2 near the centre and it did not look like an easy task !!!

Also in the Newminisport catalogue, they have Cooper and CooperS light covers, similar to what you see on the classic minis (ordered them too !!)

 :red:  :red:

Useful info - thanks. Look forward to the pics. :D I looked at the Rally light bar but am worried that as I am useless at Car DIY I could end up making a real pigs ear of things. :o

Can you buy just the toggle switch and its decal (it is a decal, isn't it?) for the lights from the MINI dealer? The thought of buying an aftermarket set of lights got me to wondering about matching the new switch with those already in the car.

mine work off the main beam of the headlights so no need for a seperate switch. I don't know if the legislation is different on your side of the pond. :D
