GBMINI Oct 17th, 2003, 12:09 PM Hey, when is this MINI Peabody event? Can I come? Events are posted there and nowhere else to keep numbers down from what I've heard.....
Diane,
I am sure that you and anyone else here would be very welcome.
I have not posted so much because it is still very "up in the air" ... although it looks like Sunday November 2 is the strong contender here - I have to see Martin at MOP; there is the possible problem of them not opening till midday on a Sunday ...
There is a MINI2 thread (http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42312) discussing it, as well as a MINIcooperOnline thread (http://www.minicooperonline.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpBB_14&file=index&action=viewtopic&topic=17313&25).
My route plan was to be a PARADE type ride - most of the roads are residential and lacking in exciting twisty bits. The event a year ago was a great time to meet others, and that is hopefully what we will duplicate.
I hope for reasonable weather because I would like frequent stops and maybe even some short walks to views or whatever.
Comments from locals are welcome ... where is Keith (from MINI who organized the summer rally) when you need him ... ice Oct 17th, 2003, 12:26 PM The next day, I found myself driving local (to me) roads faster than normal. Once I realized that, I slowed down to my usual speeds. So, that sure sounds to me like the speeds we were travelling (or, I guess I should say, I was travelling) were too fast during the organized meet. But, I'd probably go that fast again in a similar situation.
I just love the easily corrupted. snid Oct 17th, 2003, 02:06 PM Alright... so I posted a few messages that could be contrued as negative. Time to offset those.
You guys and gals rock! I believe it was MEmini who said something along the line of "what a great group of strange people we are". For a disparate buch of people from a wide range of backgrounds, everyone seems to get along famously. Even the people with "big" personalities (on-line and in person) are wonderful. In my other, non-MINI life, I'm a member of a similair on-line group that gets together in person every once in a while. In that group, the people with the biggest personalities wind up being people I'd rather not hang out with in real life. Not so with the MINI folk. Everybody is fun-loving, easy-going, and ready to help out when needed. The amount of work that goes into planning these get-togethers is amazing, and it's done with no compensation for the planners.
I, for one, like that things aren't perfect when we get together. If everything went exactly right, it would take some of the fun out of things and make it seem too professional and not grass-roots enough.
If, at times, it sounds like I'm being negative... remember that "I love you guys" :) ice Oct 17th, 2003, 02:11 PM Hey, check it out. I'm not fat, I just have a "big personality". MudBud Oct 18th, 2003, 04:00 AM " Even the people with "big" personalities (on-line and in person) are wonderful." Ok where does this put me?
"n that group, the people with the biggest personalities wind up being people I'd rather not hang out with in real life?
I am in a different group now? You don't like hanging out with older folk from Maine? Is Vermont a better state than Maine? Am I just having fun with nothing really to say?
Jason, all points well taken.....I have never seen a NEGATIVE comment on this thread. I look around to other threads and "SLAM" it goes for many posts being negative.
The group as a whole is great people. Nice job John! As a matter of fact, it's so well done that I can't find anything to rag on you about. ice Oct 23rd, 2003, 06:19 PM Nice job John! As a matter of fact, it's so well done that I can't find anything to rag on you about.
Yes John, you did a great job. However, I can find many things to "rag" about. Then again, that's just the Quality Engineer in me. jcsinnh Oct 25th, 2003, 10:59 AM Yes John, you did a great job. However, I can find many things to "rag" about. Then again, that's just the Quality Engineer in me.
You really need to find a pharmacist with happy pills...I know this traditional healer over in Hong Kong. Now, ignore the following.
I'm interested in seeing if folks out there would like to do MAMA drives where driving might not be the only focus. For example, we might meet, drive up to St. Gaudens National site and picnic, we might get a group to go to Okemo, etc., we might do something designed for kids like the Montshire Museum, we might just sit around and get hammered and take a cab home....I don't know. While driving is and should be the prime focus, is there interest in other types of stuff? Cape Cod MINI Oct 25th, 2003, 11:02 AM no jcsinnh Oct 25th, 2003, 11:04 AM Note times of my post and his. Like you, I can't sleep late on days when it's allowed.
For the rest of the MAMAphites: my "no" means yes. I think they are great ideas. snid Oct 25th, 2003, 11:45 AM I'm interested in seeing if folks out there would like to do MAMA drives where driving might not be the only focus.
Most definitely... GadgetGav Oct 25th, 2003, 11:58 AM Add me to the wide awake at the weekends club... It's going to be worse tomorrow when the clocks go back - you old guys will be up at 3am..!!! ;)
I'm interested in everything MAMA has to offer:eek: Strange to think we might have more in common than cars, but we do all seem to get on well. Being blissfully child-free, I think I would skip a kid-centric event, but the other possibilities sound interesting. What is St Gaudens..? I suppose I could look for it on the web, but there's other things to catch up on..! pincity Oct 25th, 2003, 12:14 PM I have a kid and would welcome any type of "Family " event. It would be fun to stop and see points of interest along the way.
I am planning a dec 7th toy run in RI if you guys are interested, see my new thread. We can do alot of good with these groups too!
PinCity GadgetGav Oct 25th, 2003, 12:28 PM Sounds like a good idea, Pincity...
HERE (http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43240) is the thread for those who can be bothered to duck out of this thread to go look for it. GBMINI Oct 25th, 2003, 03:54 PM I would chime in here with a vote FOR doing events that are more than just drives - but I don't need to ;) pincity Oct 25th, 2003, 10:24 PM GadgetGav,
Thanks for the link, you tech savy guys are alright.

... and lazy and up early on the weekends..! ;)
Not sure uet if I'll be able to make it - my weekends are already filling up for the rest of the year, hence missing Ian's event. I want to make it to something else this year though... Gavin....here's the link to Saint Gaudens. (http://www.sgnhs.org/saga.html) I thought the "Blow-Me-Down" trail might be well suited for Steve!!! ;) GadgetGav Oct 26th, 2003, 11:48 AM Thanks - looks interesting. I'd be up for a MAMA ramble to there (when the weather is better again). MEmini Oct 27th, 2003, 03:50 AM Thanks - looks interesting.
