Hi i just went into my Local Mini Dealer to arrange a test drive for a MC, and he told me that i gotta be 25.

So he said he'll take me out and i'll sit in the pass seat. I've arrnaged it but might cancel it, as i wanna know how the car drives before i spend £14k on a car.

My Car now is more powerful than this mini, but want a mini for the looks..

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how did you get around it.

Thanks, My local is SWANSEA, so if anyone went there please say what the guy said to you aswell.

And i know there's loads of MINI drivers under 25.

21 and test drove a mcs - GO SOMEWHERE ELSE

It's probably their insurance. Try somewhere else.
If not, ask if you arrange cover for the car would they then let you test drive.

You'll understand when you grow up.

Test drove Cooper S at Sytners London when I was 19 - didn't even ask to see my driving licence or ask my age - wierd.

L&C (Now Coopers) Sevenoaks and T/Wells both let me drive S's at 19.

Anyway, some dealers insurance policies seem to be a bit short-sighted and they wont let anyone over 25 drive their 'performance' models. I'd look elsewhere, we have a few members from Wales, so I am sure they could advice a little better. Try posting something specific in dealership feedback asking about dealers in your area.

Absolute cobblers. I test drove my MINI at 24.

I think the reason they said that was because they thought you just wanted a joy-ride?!?!?

Most car dealerships jump out of their skins as soon as they smell money. Go to another Dealership and make sure they know you're serious about buying.

On the US side...my 17 year old son test drove an MCS...after me of course...he thrashed it more than I also...the car only had 88 miles on it... :rolleyes:

they just tooka photocopy of my license.. did ask me then im 30 and do look young for me age!!!!

when we tried to test one this summer in england i was 17 and they said no at bowker mini in preston they were really weird because they took it out first and drove it to "warm it up" then my dad drove it. he even said the car would be for me and i should but they refused.

then we came home to the usa and went to chicago and asked and they had no problem what so ever and i bought one (MCS)

My dealer handed me the keys to a bran new MINI ONE when i was 17 and it was the day after id passed my test!!!!!!! He gave me the keys at 11:30 and said bring it back before we close at 4, Now that is service for you!!!!!!!! :D

Mark, im guessing there insurance wont cover you, another way round it is by swaping ur own insurance over to the car for the test drive, this usually doesnt cost any and it does have its own benifits! i think with bmws cover their excess is about £500, im sure ur own insurance policy doesnt have such a high excess.

i don't have a licence yet so no test drive for me. have driven my mums MCS around some carparks though :)

I am 27 years old. When I went to test drive a MINI with my wife, just a Cooper mind you, they sent along a guy who rode in the back seat and expounded about the different features and so on. I didn't think much of this at the time, but then another older guy showed up and they just handed him the keys and off he went! Weird!

I just turned 21 when I test drove a Cooper. I bought a car after the test drive :)

When i wanted to test drive a Mini1, they said you had to be 21. Like myself, the mini salesman in Trainer BMW Swansea has a chip on his shoulder. So i went to another salesman, he said that he would ring the insurance and check if i could drive one.

After that they allowed me to drive a One and a Cooper, but not an S

I diddnt buy mine from there though!!!!!

I had a problem with Honda (sorry for swearing), i wanted to drive a new Jazz, and they took copies of my licence, and made me sign that i would be responsable for damage.

What a piece of dung, They should be shot for making such a poor car. But anyway, there you go.

Other companies, no problem, Even the local Days (Ford) dealership has a few minis, they let me drive them, even the S.

at 22 bought the mcs wtih all my own money and pay for everything (ins/gas) on my own :)

insurance is 35 bucks a month and i love vanguard 500 :o

What a patronising thing to say!!! Go else where mate. I'm 19 and have test driven a Cooper for a total of about 2.5 hours and an S for about an hour and a half

I was at trainers yeasterday and he told me that the age was 21. I am sure that if i didnt say anything about my age he would have let me drive it.

At my local to go out unattended you need to be over 25, but if you can get anyone over 25 to go with you eg parents etc.. then your covered. I took a MCS for a test drive at 9:30 I was handed the keys and told bring it back when you've made your mind up!! I think that if you have an existing customer relationship with the dealership then they will be more willing to let you out on youre own, than if you just turn up cold.

Went into Trainers(Swansea) last Friday for a test drive. My wife is interested in a Mini One but ended up with a Mini Cooper. Salesman insisted on sitting in the back seat during the test drive (I'm 39, wife is 35). First I drove then my wife took over, but we were told where to drive, must have been about 3 miles in total, Not enough. Will have to book another test drive. My wife found it very disconcerting with the salesman breathing down the back of her neck.
Also found it strange with the salesman telling us to floor the accelerator around the bends. As he was telling me this, I just happened to notice a speed camera coming close (Townhill)

Oh well the wife fancies the pepper white. Was also quite surprised to find an insurance quote quite cheap for a second car. Quoted £315 by the AA. Just need to check out finance options, if she gets on with the car over a longer distance. Any suggestions?

I'm 23 and I've test driven the MC 3 times. They ask for my license so they know I wasn't 25 and proof of insurance. What I liked best is that they come with me. I was given the keys and told to enjoy!

ffing car dealers - It's only a ruddy MINI not a ferrari!! - personally I would tell them that you'll come back when your 25 to buy the damm thing also!
