for those of you who think the ipod is too expensive, search for it on dealmac.com and you can find lower prices. try also the following link for ipods as low as $229

Resistance is futile. I just broke down and purchased the 40 GB iPod from Dell for $419 today. Decided to buy the iPod after seeing the iPod and Nomad side by side. It occured to me that the iPod is safer to operate in a moving vehicle since the controls are plainly visible on the front panel. The Nomad requires you to operate controls on the sides. Anyway, here are the details of the Dell deal:

Dell Home offers Apple's 40GB iPod MP3 Player for $449.10 in its Software and Peripherals store. Coupon code "56BAD54168D2" chops $30 off, yielding a net price of $419.10. Shipping is free. Offer ends today.

I did the exact same thing and sent next day for a total of $428. This will be my 3rd iPod and I can't recommend them enough. It is by far the best player out there when you look at the entire ownership experience (much like buying a MINI). Anyway I expect to have my ICE-link kit soon. Can't wait!

BTW for those that have done the install how much time should I expect it to take?

I also cannot recommend the iPod enough. I've got a 1st gen. 5 GB and a 3rd gen. 10 GB. I actually have a Honda Insight as well that I upgraded the stereo and have a mini to rca wire going into the back of the head unit. I was able to conceil the wire under the carpet so it pops out right in a storage place where I keep the iPod when I'm listening to it. This would be great if I get it for the MINI. One question, though: I have a 2002 w/o H/K and aparently, it has no aux imput. Is this statement correct and if it is, would this product still work?

ice>Link will work with your head unit as it connects to the CD changer port.

If you've got a 2003 onwards head unit capable of supporting aux-in (well documented on this site) you can buy the (ludicrously priced) BMW aux input cable or build your own.

If not, you'll either need an aux input adaptor (http://www.ihavetohave.it/acatalog/Mini_Aux_Input.html) or if you fancy FF/RW control of your iPod and power on/off as you enter/exit CD changer mode, a Dension ice>Link:iPod (http://www.ihavetohave.it/acatalog/ICE-Link_Mini.html).

As we're in the same post code :) feel free to call for a chat 0871 871 9747.

The local high end auto stereo shop (does the San Francisco 49ers cars) recently installed the ICE Link adaptor on a customer's BMW.

The customer was not real happy with the track change function of the MFSW. It seems that this iPod function is very sensitive, esp on the newer style iPods with the touch sensitive dial. When you want to change one track up or down through the MFSW, the iPod often times will jump several tracks, until you get the hang of giving the MFSW button just a super quick tap and release.

I have purchased one since my last post and have not noticed this problem. occasionaly, but not often, it takes more than one tap to advance tracks. overall i am happy with it and am looking forward to v2 with the single (dock) connector

I wonder if there's an issue with the install. Mine has been perfect. (http://www.bridger.us/mini/ice_link/) Granted anytime you skip tracks 3-4 at a time a any hard drive player will take a second to catch up. And then of course if you're not used to that and you hit the skip track button further you could end up going well past your desired track. Other than that I can't imagine what could be the problem.
