: Mini UK Window Tints ? romaning2004 Nov 5th, 2003, 06:47 PM Hi folks,
I know, i know, your thinking oh god, hear we go again, but i have to come out with it anyway, even if i get flamed for it :)
I just noticed on the BMW / Mini UK site that you can now get your windows tinted :) Is this a all round tint, or do they still not tint the drivers and passengers front side windows.
Cheers and flame away, hahahahah i understand Roman Adriann001 Nov 5th, 2003, 07:07 PM rear windows only and they are only a light tint romaning2004 Nov 5th, 2003, 07:12 PM rear windows only and they are only a light tint

Autoglass offer a tinting service, sides and rear, illegal on windscreen. Rakey Nov 5th, 2003, 09:42 PM Just got my quote to get done as an after, £345, would be interested to hear others please to get a bench mark:D GaryM Nov 5th, 2003, 09:46 PM Also looking to get mine done. Had it on my previous Mini. I did myself with the stuff from halfords in Dark smoke. Was only brave enough to do all the side windows though. Did not want the hassle or doing the rear but it still looked good.
Dark smoke was almost certainly illegle as had I problems seeing out at dusk or on foggy days so will look at light smoke this time.
Speaking direct with the manufacture of the halfords stuff they now do pre cut kits for the mini and will mould the rear out of a single sheet for a one peice fit all for under £50. It can be ordered by TMC in the UK for self fitting.
Also looking at anothe supplier but I will have to heatshrink the rear to fit. humbug Nov 5th, 2003, 09:49 PM Interested to hear people say that factory tint is 'light' as Williams Mini M/cr quoted to do doors to match but then refused quoting legel problems. Price was around £200 as they matched Benhams Stockport. Would like to have had them done but not sure whether I can be without car while they get sorted. steve5452 Nov 5th, 2003, 09:56 PM Decided against front tints on mine, just see how it will look with just the rear done then decide later. I have changed my mind so many times already though on everything else, that I may still change my mind again. ( only just decided whether to get viper or bonet strpies) punkeyfunky Nov 6th, 2003, 06:16 AM Just got my quote to get done as an after, £345, would be interested to hear others please to get a bench mark:D
My dealer arranged the tints through a local 'source'. Cost me £250 (paid to the dealer), for all round tints. I love 'em. Pics in gallery, http://punkey.net/minigallery.html
Lee WarGod Nov 6th, 2003, 06:19 AM Same as punkeyfunky - £250 all round from the dealer (Irvines in Bridgewater) Rakey Nov 6th, 2003, 09:23 AM Just had revised quote come back after I questioned it, apprently if I get them done this month they will do it for a whopping £330 all in, still a bit high me thinks. Bonnie Scotland Nov 6th, 2003, 09:30 AM Got mine done at a local garage in Aberdeen which the installers use as a base for doing the job, £150 for 25 per cent tint, legal. I think they travelled from the Glasgow area.
Cost may have gone up since it was done about 9 months ago.
Bonnie Scotland WarGod Nov 6th, 2003, 09:32 AM Rakey,
Best come down south then? Bridgewater cant be much more than an hour away from Brum? (A tad longer from China though?) ;) romaning2004 Nov 6th, 2003, 11:46 AM Aye unfortunatly thats true but im still gettin mine done after I get my mini the front ones that is ill look like a drug dealer
Hi there Rich_IX,
Im still going to get mine done, but through anouther company :)
I want to get as dark as is legaly aloud, hahahahahah but the nightmare i have, is living right in the middle of the westend, so i will have to drive out to get them done, and then wate there untill they are finished.
I might end up going to Gloucester, as i know people there that can do it for me, and i can pop in on my sister at the same time :) hahahahahaha good excuse i think, and a lovely drive at the same time :)
Cheers Roman Deacon Nov 6th, 2003, 04:39 PM Hello,
Had my rear windows factory tinted and had the front side windows tinted by the dealer. I think the factory tint and the front side tint look quite dark but from the inside you can hardly tell, no problems with visibility at night. Was £100 for the factory tint rear windows and dealer charged £150 for the front window tint. I've attached a picture but sorry the quality isn't too great, can't seem to work out how to attach a picture without shrinking the file down that much to ruin the quality! Rich_IX Nov 6th, 2003, 06:22 PM yeh looks good the factory tint that is..
But how did you get him to do the front 2? I thought it was illegal? WarGod Nov 6th, 2003, 06:29 PM yeh looks good the factory tint that is..

I was told by my dealer as MINI is classed as a foreign car you are allowed up to 25% tint (i think) Deacon Nov 6th, 2003, 06:48 PM From what I understand and what my dealer told me it is only illegal to have the windscreen tinted. It's not illegal to have the side windows tinted as long as they are not too dark (sorry not sure on the actual % but I'm sure it's in the forums somewhere).
My cars insured with Direct Line and they also have no problems with the window tints.
Hope this is some help romaning2004 Nov 6th, 2003, 07:12 PM From what I understand and what my dealer told me it is only illegal to have the windscreen tinted. Hi Deacon
This is exactly what i want, the only window i dont want to do, is the wind screen, as funny enough, hahahahah i really find seeing everything infront of me helps me out alot :p
Cheers Roman
Ps 40mph round a bend, is that a tree or a cow, hahahahahah Rich_IX Nov 6th, 2003, 07:19 PM Ill ask my dealer 2 morrow what the price for the front 2 tints are i already racked up 16grand on my mini ONE :( hehe Deacon Nov 6th, 2003, 07:20 PM Although the tints look quite dark from the outside they are barely noticable from the inside, I was quite amazed in fact at how little difference there seems to be from the inside between the windscreen with no extra tint and the side and even rear windows. Rich_IX Nov 6th, 2003, 07:22 PM Did you get yours from the mini factory fit Deacon? Deacon Nov 6th, 2003, 08:21 PM The rear windows are factory tinted and the front windows dealer tinted steve5452 Nov 6th, 2003, 09:02 PM Ill ask my dealer 2 morrow what the price for the front 2 tints are i already racked up 16grand on my mini ONE :( hehe

I am very pleased with the look, but was worried they'd be to dark when I first went to pick the car up.
Had a few looks from the local cops (on football duty) when I've been cruising through town of a Saturday afternoon. Fully expect to get pulled one day. Rakey Nov 7th, 2003, 01:06 PM Its all the people at Mini2 fault!

Sounds good but we can save you some money on that spec;)
You have heated seats twice, and if you are getting the HK stereo, why are you paying for the Boost and a single CD head unit, and two cd changers? Also would drop front windscreen top tint, it is not worth the £50 when you see it. | |
