I saw yesterday on E-bay that someone was auctioning a MINI accessories brochure - and this item had 2 bids :confused:

Just wondered are these collectable - i have a Accessories brochure and also a big thick thing with PVC covers, i think from the first relase - with lots of piccies in it of a Mini Cooper nipping around Sydney (opposite the harbour bridge).

Yeah, I've got the big one (around Syndey) and I saw one up on Ebay for I think £5 the other day. Hmmm... must make a few postings myself!

If you don't throw it away, anything is collectable. Whether it becomes valuable depends on your ability to get someone to buy it.

Zen and the art of collecting? :) :)

There are some people out there who are avid car brochure collectors. Just as weird and geeky as some MINI2ers. :D

Yea Minty, I've got a stash of old Escort Cossie brochures and other assorted stuff at the back of a drawer in the house. I might have to get them out and put them on Ebay! It would make for some nice beer money!

They are probably not all that valuable now but can you imagine in twenty years time. Some of this stuff will be worth a fortune.

You see drivers of classic concours cars now with mint original brochures on display in their car. This is when the money can be made.

Spacer I would imagine original Escort Cossie brochures would be worth a few quid to the right person. Only probably £20 - £30 I reckon though.

I have loads of brochures, mailouts and other stuff I've acquired over the past 3 years on MINI. I have a box full. Plus I have lots of magazine articles too. These can also be worth a bit, although these do only have any real worth when the car is pretty old and people want to read what was thought it when it was originally released.

Ginge: Good point. I think I've got some old BMW stuff (8 series, old M5...) and some other assorted stuuf, from my younger days when I went to all the motorshows with my Dad. I might have a wee scout on Ebay and see what I can do!

Someone was selling current brochures on there a while ago that you could pick up at any MINI dealers, claiming them to be 'rare'. People were bidding quite a bit for them too. :rolleyes:

It's funny what can become valuable. If I were the people with the brochures, I'd hold onto them longer. It's got a high percentage on profit. If you pick them up from the dealer for free and you just bother to protect them and keep them in good shape, you get a heck of a return on your investment when you sell them for a few bucks (Pounds, Pesos, Euros or whatever).

I have some odd stuff related to my '66 Plymouth. In addition to a fragile but mostly preserved build sheet from when it went through assembly, I picked up a collision repair cost estimator from the era and a few magazine ads. Overall, the value was only to me, but the fine people that sold me the stuff did pretty well.

Yup, I had stuff off ebay relating to my 69 Porsche, original brochures, magazine ads etc.

I aslo sold a sales catalogue for grasstrack/speedway bikes and parts from 1971 and got nearly £35 for it!

I've got quite a stash of press packs and other goodies, plus the usual MINI brochures from the first lot to present day.

Maybe I should sell them all and retire?

Not to take a off-handed remark too seriously, but there are some folks making a pretty penny in the states by holding onto those kind of things until they retire and then make money traveling around to auto shows, auto jumbles (swap meets) and races and selling that sort of stuff to other enthusiasts.

I've seen / have:

* Mini Air Freshner
* Barf bag
* Race and mod sticker ad
* Postcard ad where the car changes from red Cooper to decked out race car
* Mini Mavrick stickers
* Evil Keneval iron-on
* Paper Model Car Ad
* business card size yellow Cooper / interior change card
* 'kill' stickers, random SUV/ car sillouettes
* Playboy centerfold

Nulltty, we too have all of that, plus more, neighbors drop by things, ads from The New Yorker and other mags, we try to get two or three of everything, silly eh?

None of the goodies get used, they just sit on the shrine :o

Took extra brochures for other collectors we know from the MINI Plant in Oxford, we were so hoping they'd be selling those cute cute overcoats by then, no dice.

I kept a pretty good collection of stuff. I even bought some things off e-bay, I could not find for free.

We all have things that we collect!

The value of car brochures often depends on the car and how it does as a collectable. Would you pay more for a 64 Corvette brochure or the brochure from a 76 Plymouth Volare?

Time to go on e-bay and add to my collection!

A "moment" that all this stuff becomes more valuable happens sooner than most realize. Opps, it's already passed!

The launch materials will become more sought after. Also, the brochures, sales materials, and "stuff" from this first generation of the New MINI will be a big deal when people start buying more used [2nd and 3rd owner] cars, and then even more so after the face lift in 2006. Time tends to trash all these materials.

Yes, I saw a current UK accessory brochure on there the other day described as 'rare'. The idiots that get taken in by this kind of crap, when they can walk into a dealership and pick one up for free!

Like Minty said, this could make him and I rich! :D

Actually, these printed items are called "Ephemera" and are quite collectible, not just auto folk, but the rare book aficionado as well. Keep them for awhile. Don't fold them, keep the corners neat and store them in zip bags.
Too cool ¿que no?
