Can someone tell me the truth about the differences of the mini s and the mini I am going to purchase one and I really dont know which. I drove both and dont seem to be able to tell the difference in the ride.

Best thing to do is go to www.miniusa.com and look at the specs of each car to compare them :)

Over here in Australia the difference is $7000.

Im getting my MC in March & ive happy with the coopers performance, if you are after a MINI & havnt got much moeny, buy the MC, & then in a few years time trade her in & buy the S.

I'll proberly keep my MC for 3 years until the warrentry runs out & then maybe buy a Cooper S. :D

Test drive both. I thought the MCS was substantially faster feeling. -Mark

Apart from the differences in appearance, there's a pretty large performance difference between the two. A test drive should really have made that clear, if not, you may be as well going for the Cooper.

If you are mainly concerned with a smooth ride, the options would go like this, from best to worst:

Best -- MC with 15" tires
MC with 16" tires
MCS with 16" tires
Worst -- MCS with 17" tires

I think there is a JCW option for 18" tires if the 17" ones don't give a harsh enough ride for you. :) Note that ride quality is inversely proportional to handling (i.e. the handling gets better as the ride gets worse). Also note that the sport suspension + option on the MC makes the ride worse and the handling better. As for which is more important, handling or ride, even the worst handling MC is great compared to most other cars.

If you couldn't tell the difference then clearly you don't drive cars too hard so I would prob say go for the Cooper. I personally couldn't believe how different the two cars were, I prefer some things on the Cooper and other things on the S. Kinda goes without saying that they are both a blast to drive :D

Check dealers in other states for best price, availability and options. MCS has much stronger engine and transmission, much poorer mileage.

Send me a private message. I currently own both models (Cooper CVT and
Cooper S)

We drove both of them for a good while and decided to buy the Cooper with the sport package. It is working out great and we have a spare even though the sport package comes with run flat tires. The S was great but we really did not need the extra power.

When I first saw the thread's title it seemed that I would be the perfect choice to respond since we have both a MINI Cooper CVT and a Mini Cooper S! :D

CooperS4us should steer you fair on this decision. I'd be interested in what he advises.

We've been absolutely delighted with SS+ on the Cooper CVT. It allows a compliant ride on 15x5.5" wheels for the commute, or embarrassing (to others) track day performance with the 16x6.5" wheels and grippy tires. I switch wheels around all summer long; works well.
