clubMINI had its Byron Bay run today :D

It was HOT!!!! 43.5C or 110.3F It got me wondering if anyone has had a run in extreme heat? can we take the title of "Hottest Run" ?? :)

I have seen a lot of pics of runs in the snow on MINI2 but have not seen many when it was stinking hot.

We had 22 MINI's and they all handled the heat with no problems :)

I've got wonderful memories of being in Byron Bay .....too bad I couldn't have been there for the run.....although, I don't know if I could have handled that heat!

Wow, that is almost tire melting hot! The Arizona or Nevada MINI clubs may be able to match those temps, but I doubt anyone can beat them.

I know what you mean about the heat. On Friday in Sydney we also had early 40s temps in the afternoon , was it ever hot ! ! ! !

Sounds like the run was a lot of fun - as always - especially going to Byron .

One thing our friends from O/S have failed to notice from cjay s photo is that our tacho is in the centre of the dash instead of the speedo & vice versa. We would have loved to have our cars in the same format as the rest of the world. Blame our insane design rules for this .

Look forward to hearing about more Mini runs from around the world.

I saw it get to 43.5 but my wife could only manage a 42 degree shot due to her 1. being pregnant and 2. flying around the cabin on the old Lion's Road.

Great day Cjay. I loved that Lions Road exept for the part when I didn't see the left hand bend and subsaquently had the ABS grinding for about 100 metres.

GOOD FUN!

I'll trade! I like the looks of the center speedo, but the hubby tends to nag over the speed. Having the tach in the center solves the problem.

He could nag about the revs then ;)

Like most folks down here I'd like to have the tacho in front of me when I'm driving hard. Especially with a CVT in steptronic, it's a pain looking in the middle of the dash trying to avoid the rev limiter :D

If it was so hot how come your engine has not warmed up? was it a short run? :D  :D

Because the hair dryer on the temperature sensor only works when it's plugged into power in the garage.

Mike was giving his car a blow wave at the time  :D:D

Yes cjay you might get your wish if the new center cluster design makes it pass good old ADR18.

CJ,

Don't worry, Western Australia is still on Daylight Savings Temp - That's only 42.5 over here in Queensland.:D

Just checked the atlas and I see that Perth is 31 degrees South while Brisbane is only 27degrees South, I should have allowed for this, you guys win, will try harder next time. :)

C,

When are you going to do a Brisbane to Sydney run? ;) I can't imagine how fast you would make it in Bull considering how fast you made it in your old car....with only 1 stop

Well the temperature were nothing like you folks have had but the Cotswold Run last August was on the day the UK record temperature was set - it topped 100f for the first time, so that was the hottest UK Run :D

Yeah, we sure did feel it - never had 100 degrees before so it was a scorcher for us. Our weather is defintitely more humid, wet and warm in summer, winters seem milder but then when we do get a coldsnap it's really harsh. Global warming doing it 's thing I guess :(

It's officially Autumn in Oz now, but in my state of Victoria, Summer has made one last comeback. Yesterday's Melbourne forecast was 35C, Mildura in north west Victoria, was forecast to be 40C. So in the heat of the day I set off on my 480Km drive to my folks house for a few days. Whilst travelling north, the outside temperature gradually climbed. 35, 36, 37C all before 1PM . Stop for lunch & back into the car, temp is up to 39C then 40, 41, 42 over the next hour or so 43C at 3:30PM at a tiny town called Woomelang. Nice and cool inside though, with Climate set to 23C. Onwards towards Ouyen, it touched 43.5C, then just south of Mildura, 44C!!:aargh: All the while, the A/C working beautifully, the window tint doing just what window tint should do and the temp sitting on normal. The oil temperature guage sitting on 105C. All the while at 110KPH, with a strong northerly head wind, my fuel economy averaged 7.7L per 100KM. Sorry I didn't bring my camera, but suffice to say, I'm happy with my Mini:D

I'll have to see if I can get a pick of the guage on my next trip up to QLD next week. Last time I saw it at 47C. That was outside of Taroom. I'll be going more inland next time, through Bourke and the like, so it should get nice and searing:p
