Hi,

I just returned from a weekend at the snow :D Everything you have heard on snow reports is true, and not promotional hype ;) I have never seen a base this big in mid July, its simply awesome :D All lifts were open (including Olympic), and smiggs was looking great.

Two days of skiing has really whetted my appetite. Its going to be a long couple of weeks waiting for our ski trip

BTW, I took Sparky the mini down for the weekend, but only to Jindy, not up on the slopes. It was nice to take the car for a long drive. However, the cruise control in 6th gear really sucks especially with all the coppers about. It is particularily bad in the hundred zones, if I set it to 100 the speed fluctuates between 92-105 depending on the terrain :(

I saw a CR/W mini up in the snowfields, looked great ;)

Cheers

I'm going down for a quick weekend on July 31/August 1, probably boarding in Perisher one day and Thredbo the other.

Will you guys be on the snow in Perisher on August 1?

If everything goes to plan, we should be on the snow Sunday afternoon. Apparently you get free Sunday afternoon skiing if you get there after lunch. It might depend on what sort of trip we have from Canberra. :)

I'll be definitely on the snow by 1pm at Persisher Blue Got to some practice in before Robbo gets there. If I can get the others organised  , we'll have 4 of the the Brissie guys on snow. Don't know what time you've got to head back, but it would be good to at least catch up to say g'day. If you want to catch up, PM me with some ideas of when and where.

MiniGolf,

At least, Ashley and I will be staying Saturday night in Canberra, if you are interested in catching up for a bite or a beer, PM me.

Cheers

Oh, this might be a dumb question, but are you guys driving your MINIs. :) Black Betty is only a 2 seater. She'll be packed to the gunwhals, and with the new Mont Blanc racks and skis on top, she will look the part. Ashley will be sharing the driving with me.

So unless swamos changes his mind, only 1 MINI.

Black Betty turned 1 and hit exactly 25,000 Ks last Saturday. I ran her in on last years snow trip, and then had the Works Kit fitted the day we got back to Bris. So this year, she'll be ready for a hoot of a drive, especially, if I decide to come in via Forbes. Love those brilliantly cambered roads heading in through Grenfell and Young. Just have to watch out for the one railway crossing that I bottomed out on last year. :(

Look forward to catching up.

If every thing works out I might be getting a works kit fitted the week we are down the snow!!!! WOOOHOOO I didn't realise you were that close. I think Claudia is also thinking the same timeframe too.

That will make 6 or 7 clubMINI Works Ss. The numbers are gowing.

Maybe we should have a clubMINI JCW snow trip next year.

Tried the new RUD Centrax chains on today. Talk about easy to put on 30 seconds per side, and even less to take off . No lying or kneeling down. Still haven't got the price yet.

As for snow, I think you're right. The satellite photo at 3.30pm was showing a cloud band heading from the Antartic straight towards the ski fields. :D

Hi,

It is DUMPING snow :D :D :D

I went to a BMW NSW track day today at Wakefield Park, just outside of Goulburn.

Early in the morning it started raining, which soon turned to sleet. By the time of my second session on the track there were big fat snowflakes floating around. It was an interesting / scary experience fanging around the track on track tyres in the snow.

Soon after the snowflakes got really big and fat, and soon there was around 2-3cm of snow on the ground, and the track day was abandoned  I then struggled home slowly through lots of falling snow :D

If it was snowing this much in Goulburn, imagine what it was like down in the mountains. I heard that the road from Berridale to Jindy was closed most of the day

Robbo,

Thanks for the snow report and the link to Boo's photos.

The latest satellite images also the cold front moving through.

QR trackday was a hoot as usual, with the last run occurring with the headlights on and superchargers working a treat.

Hi Swamos,

I hate to break the news to you, but unfortunately despite all the good work of Roy and HG, Smiggs missed out on the 2010 olympics

However, you will be pleased to know that all the paraphernalia from the Smigs 2010 campaign is now quite valuable and highly sought after :D

When we went to Whistler, where they are actually hosting the 2010 Olympics, quite a few people asked me about "smiggin holes" :D :D Smiggs is now quite legendary throughout the skiing community :D

Attached are some pics from our trip to Whistler, featuring some of the olympic sites.

Cheers

Robbo
