: 12 volt supply in luggage compartment andy_guildford Apr 13th, 2004, 08:00 AM I've just taken delivery of my MCS (wahey) but I'm rather disappointed to discover that the 12 volt supply which I was expecting to find in the luggage compartment isn't there!
My old MC had one and I found it extremely useful - even bought a MINI fridge for the summer months! Has anyone fitted an electric supply themselves or do BMW do it? Barnabas Apr 13th, 2004, 08:10 AM Woah weird. Is your MCS new? From what I know the 2004 models should have the 12v outlet...I'd wait and see what the real experts say.
EDIT: Oops I think it's just the MC that had the 12v outlet put in, taken out, and put back in. I don't know the situation with the MCS. Sorry! mikeythemini Apr 13th, 2004, 11:37 AM I fitted one myself, I keep the sockets
I connected mine to the battery (via a fuse) so its always live - easy as the battery is in the boot. maxsendq Apr 13th, 2004, 11:43 AM I asked about this when I ordered my mini, adn the dealer charged £35 to fit it, as he said it wasn't standard any more.
But unlike mikeythemini this one is off when the engine is off, so I cna't leave the fridge on over night and have a flat battery. flav Apr 13th, 2004, 11:51 AM let me get this straight. i have also heard the outlet is back in the minis for 2004. but this is only the cooper. why? i have an MCS coming in about a week. why would they put the outlet in the cooper and not the MCS? that makes no sense at all. the cooper s costs more money. and if i do want it in my MCS i have to have the dealer install it? something does not sound right here. Windshadow Apr 13th, 2004, 12:09 PM Standard in the 04 models in the U.S.A. Fear not MiniMinor Apr 13th, 2004, 12:32 PM My Dec 03 built Cooper ain't got it either, I too was a bit confused when i found it wasn't fitted as i was expecting it to be.
Had it fitted in my first cooper even though i never used it i feel a little robbed that it isn't in my new one.
:) EBMCS03 Apr 14th, 2004, 06:06 AM I asked about this when I ordered my mini, adn the dealer charged £35 to fit it, as he said it wasn't standard any more..
Wooo only 35... wonder if i can get it fitted here in the US for $35 :) if so I'll do it. time to ring my dealer... Red Dwarf Apr 14th, 2004, 06:41 AM My March 04 Cooper hasn't got it either, and I feel a little robbed too! :( Parc77 Apr 14th, 2004, 07:30 AM Had one in my September 2002 MCS but not in March 2004 MCS :( bit silly really you'd think as the model progresses we'd only get more jlivengo Apr 14th, 2004, 08:25 AM I have a Feb 04 MCS that has it. It's a US spec so it seems like the european version won't have it? OregonCooper Apr 14th, 2004, 02:52 PM It's in my MC (Feb 04 build U.S. model). camminich Apr 14th, 2004, 07:26 PM Ok, stupid question I know but I still have to ask. I have a March 03 MCS and I have the button in the back where I think the plug should go, but I don't know if it is actually there or not. I have only tried playing with it once while taking some stuff out of the back, and I wasn't able to get the plug out, but I didn't try too hard. So I guess my real question is "even though you may not have the outlet, do you still have the opening for it?"
Thanx
Cameron Johnny225 Apr 14th, 2004, 07:38 PM U.S. spec Feb 2004 and it has it.
I don't see how your's doesn't! EBMCS03 Apr 15th, 2004, 01:50 AM 2003 models dont in the US they took it out and then due to customer demand they added it back for 2004. so 2003 is the only year that doesnt have the rear 12v supply. 'THE MIGHTY IMP' Jul 10th, 2004, 10:09 PM It should be a no charge option... I have one.. (mine is an October 2001 Cooper, built just 1 month after they came out officially, ordered August 2001 on mini one release day)
As for going off when you take the key out, you can have that toggled on or off according to taste. just ask your service guy and he'll plug your car in and change your settings.. a little like follow me home lights, follow me home light time delay, indicator lights do or don't flash when setting unsetting alarm, etc, etc.
ask your dealer what your options are, or search the tecchie threads.
hope this helps./
Ian M joeinitaly Jul 12th, 2004, 07:02 AM I wanted this option as well, and did not get it (Feb 01 MCS). Let me know if anyone in the States gets a good resolution please! 'THE MIGHTY IMP' Jul 13th, 2004, 05:18 PM i know it's not the point, but a trip to Maplins to buy a cigarette lighter and an inline fuse would fix your problem.. you'd only need about 3ft of cable, as your battery is in the boot almost underneath the cigarette lighter thingy (MCS drivers). plus, if you wired it yourself, it would be live all the time..
just a thought.

I know the car i test drove had it, then by the time i'd waited 7 months for delivery they had deleted it, then I heard it was back, now it seems to be gone again !..... LordWinslow Jul 14th, 2004, 11:05 AM I have one in my 04 MCS (December 03 Build)...
