I wonder how we can determine the callsign for the Patriot? There are about a million ships called "Patriot" when I search at sailwx.info... This is probably doable but I haven't figured out how. Just thought it would be nice to know where the ship is now, etc. :)

-mike

Well, this is what I know as of yesterday when I printed it out:

The Patriot is on voyage EB421-PAT

Port / Country / Arrival / Departure
ANTWERP BELGIUM 08/08/2004 08/08/2004
BREMERHAVEN GERMANY 10/08/2004 10/08/2004
SOUTHAMPTON UK 12/08/2004 12/08/2004
BRUNSWICK, GA U.S.A. 22/08/2004 22/08/2004
CHARLESTON,SC U.S.A. 23/08/2004 24/08/2004
BALTIMORE, MD U.S.A. 26/08/2004 27/08/2004

Sooo, right now it hasn't even made it to Antwerp. I checked and it's still on it's previous voyage (NB418-PAT) and is currently between Baltimore, MD, USA and Southampton, where it will arrive on 8/7, and continue on to Antwerp. From what I can tell from it's previous voyage, it just makes one big circle - Belgium, Germany, UK, US, etc. sigh.

I just went looking for WQVY on oceanweather, but I can't find it anywhere between the US and the UK......

Does anyone have the shipping info for cars that will come all the way to California? ASKMINI stated that my car will actually be stuck on a boat for 22 days going through the Panama Canel on its way to the west coast distribution point.

(It looks like I won't see her until mid-to-end of September!)

This is my concern also...

I just emailed NYK to find out 1. if they're indeed BMW's shipping line to the US West Coast and 2. to get a schedule for the next 4-6 weeks, Southampton to Port Hueneme, since I cannot get anything but exception errors when I try on their WS. I will post results when I have them. If I get them. When they send them. >Yawn< :o Jimbo

The automated ASK-MINI system now has a estimated completion date of 8/12 for my car. Now we are seeing some visible progress!

Car is "RECEIVED AT TERMINAL" according to the WW site. :) Of course, I don't know if I should consider that a good or bad thing, given that it's now going to sit there for 8 days before the Patriot comes to rescue it.

Don't worry, mine will find yours and keep him company. After sitting there for three days by himself, he'll be happy to have a new friend! :D

I still can't find that silly boat on the oceanweather site. Tiny little letters all on top of one another, and WQVY nowhere to be seen. <sigh>

Yeah my friend Peter actually has an HB/B MCS just like mine out there waiting for the Patriot along with us, as well as a guy asaulo1 from NAM. So we should be in good company. :)

Where are you located Appy? If you're coming through the Charleston port, you'll most likely be on the Patriot with the rest of us. :)

I am in the Dallas area of Texas.

MA said I should have "APPY" by the end of Aug.

Appy -

Well, if your MCS is to arrive by then end of Aug, you won't be with mike & me on the Patriot - it doesn't even arrive in the US until 8/23. Then with customs, the VPC, and shipping I'm thinking our Minis won't be arriving at Baron & Classic until early Sept. Sooooo, just hope Appy is on a different boat! :D

I hope I am on the next boat, the waiting is killing me, I am even thinking about painting the floor in the garage so it looks better when she gets here. :wone:

speed_racer,

I dunno about early Sept, could easily be late August... Because if we arrive the 23rd, many people are breezing through the VPC, and getting to their dealers within a few days, so we could definitely see the cars at the dealer by 8/30 or earlier, if we're lucky.

At this point I am afraid to think about "luck". The last time I did that I was hoping for the 8/5 boat and ended up with the 8/12 instead. :D But I do hope you're right. ;)

Haha, good point speed_racer. I told my dealer I would really, really like to see the car by Sept 20 given that classes start up again on the 27th, and I finish work for the summer about the 20th or a little earlier, and I'd like a week to baby my new MINI and enjoy it before classes. She says she thinks it's very likely I can see it by then, so really that's all I'm asking for. :)

anybody have an idea as to how long before I can find out what ship it will be on?

I went to CARGO tracking and my VIN does not work.

mike - I want it early but yet I don't. I want it early so I can have it! :D But I want it to be later because I still have to straighten out financing and sell my existing vehicle, which I am afraid may take awhile. I may get "lucky" ;) and it'll sell fast, but I'm not holding my breath. (speed_racer, the eternal pessimist!)

BartMack - Yay for you! You do know I hate you right now, right? :p Well, happy sailing! Did you find the boat on oceanweather?

Appy - Yay for you, too! I'm not sure why yours hasn't shown up on the WW site. Keep checking, though. I kept checking mine religiously, but it didn't actually show up with any info until after it had been logged in a received at the dock. Let us know what boat you're on when you find out! :D

Appy, my guess is you're coming into CA so you're not going to be on a WW ship. Look around for the talk about a different carrier for the west coast ports.

mlebeau,

MA said it would be coming in thru the VDC is South Carolina.

So watching the boards indicated that it would be a WW ship.

I did not get a response on the WW site until it had been brought to the docks either, but then it showed it had actually been booked back on 7/7 !!

Speed_Racer, Don't be hatin' :D
[I watched about 30 minutes of "Malibu's Most Wanted" last nite, I think because I was in shock over how really really bad it was and couldn't bring myself to change the station :p]

Funny, I was booked on 7/7 as well, but didn't get an earlier boat. Ah, well....

"Don't be hatin'"??? I cannot believe you admitted that you actually watched part of that! I refused to see that movie. (I will fess up to seeing Demi Moore at her best in the ultimate so-bad-it's-funny-you-gotta-be kidding-me "Striptease". It was like a bad accident... I was in horror, but couldn't look away! :D)

I just returned from Classic MINI, where I had my second manual transmission lesson as my car is scheduled to be finished production on Aug. 9. I drove a 04 MCS EB/W. This was my first lesson in over a month, so I was a bit rusty. I stalled several times starting out of the gate, but got the hang of it once I started going. Still, I was stressed every time I reached a stop sign or traffic.
Also, I tried reverse for the first time and I figure parallel parking might be a challenge. I was frustrated, but my MA kept on encouraging me. If the car came tomorrow, I'd be very hesitant driving it home on my own. Unfortunately, I can only learn on the MCS 30-minutes at a time and the dealership is 40 miles away, so it's not like I can go there every day before my car arrives. Sigh.

Anyway, after my lesson my MA showed me a BRG '05 MCS in the showroom with beige/black leather interior. I wonder if it belongs to anybody here????

Hmm, joey, do your best to learn as much as possible *before* the car arrives. You don't want to be driving a brand new car around with less-than-great manual driving skills if possible. :) Anyone else's car you can use for a while or anything? The only way to get really good at it is with regular practice.

You will get the hang of it, and driving a stickshift is some much more fun then the automatics. I have been driving stickshifts on the last 5 cars I've had. My daughter has a 91 VW cabriolet with a stickshift, and says it is so much more fun.

If everyone drove a stickshift, they would'nt have an xtra hand free to hold their cell phone and drive crazy on the road while on the phone.

I've mastered the art of both ;)

hey joey, don't get discouraged! It takes everyone a little while to learn. I was lucky, I learned to drive on a stick shift. It was a combination of finding a stick as the best candidate for my first car combined with the fact that my mom was insistent that I learn the art of a manual transmission so I could drive anything, anywhere, anytime. She drove the car home to our house out in the middle of nowhere and I just drove all around our 1 acre yard hiccuping and stalling all the way. But I learned, and when I totaled that same car 6 months later I found I had pushed in the clutch automatically and had to turn off the car when I came to a stop. My mom was mad at me for wrecking my car and scaring her to death, but she said "(sigh) Well at least I know you can definitely drive a stick shift if you managed to push in the clutch and keep it from stalling through all that!" :D

Hang in there, and as the others said, try to borrow someone's car, or see if they actually still rent manuals anywhere, or something! Just try to get as much practice as possible! You'll do fine. :D
