Although I am highly jealous, I am very glad your Mini made it to solid ground safe and sound and didn't get beat up by Charley. :D
Don't worry too much speed_racer.. Ours will be in by the end of the week! :D
-mike Cadbury Aug 17th, 2004, 03:34 AM When I called today to talk to a live person to see what the satus was, they told me that the car was at the port. They also said that this was as far as they tracked and that all information from here on would be from the dealer or the OL. Is this true? Sounded odd to me? At least I know it has some other MINIs to keep it company before it goes on its month long cruise...
Andy
Yup - quite a few of us in that "boat"... mine is sitting at the dock right now too... I've been looking at the shipping news everyday to see which vessels are going in and out, and trying to figure out which is a k-line or nyk that's going to eastern US!! speed_racer Aug 17th, 2004, 12:25 PM Don't worry too much speed_racer.. Yeah, I know! <keeping fingers crossed for good weather and good sailing> It seems like forever, but it also is going amazingly fast. Does that make any sense? :D It's coming up so quick - I need to get serious about selling my SUV! Wetworth Aug 17th, 2004, 11:48 PM I'm also on the Maersk Wind, in fact I learned this moments ago :D Can anybody tell me where I can find the map of where the ship is at the moment on www.w2global.com? mlebeau Aug 18th, 2004, 02:44 AM Yeah, I know! <keeping fingers crossed for good weather and good sailing> It seems like forever, but it also is going amazingly fast. Yeah, I am excited for its arrival to the States but upset because it looks like it may still be quite some time before I see it. :( I haven't heard back from my dealer with a more accurate shipping estimate yet, but it could be as late as late September before they ship it out! In that case, I may be seriously considering flying out and driving back instead. :D
-mike mlebeau Aug 18th, 2004, 03:46 AM Woohoo, I now have an estimated delivery date of 8/28 on the Owners Lounge! :D Oh man, I can see why a bunch of others who ordered from Classic thought they would have it shipped, and then couldn't wait and flew out. We'll see - it all depends on whether they can ship my car out fast enough. :)
-mike aautobee Aug 18th, 2004, 06:28 AM I called the automated system tonight (11:30pm MST) and was told my car is IN TRANSIT!! woo hoo!!! every second I sit here my MINI is inching closer and closer. So all you West Coasters waiting for a ship, better check on your status, we may all be on the same boat. If you find anything about the ship let us know.
Andy asaulo1 Aug 18th, 2004, 06:50 AM mlebeau - hey mike, mine still shows en route... did you ever see that the status was in VPC? also, let me know if you decide to fly up there and drive it down... I might just do that with you... might be fun motoring a caravan from Classic to Cali. mlebeau Aug 18th, 2004, 07:55 AM Hey asaulo1,
No, my car has not had any status about being in the VPC yet, since it isn't there yet. :) I will definitely let you know my plans as to flying or shipping... I would definitely prefer to ship, but if it's a matter of getting the car, say, 3 weeks sooner or something drastic like that as it may well be, I will be seriously considering flying. I told Julie my ultimate goal was to have the car by Sept 20, although now that it's getting there so soon, Sept 20 seems painfully distant. So we'll see once Julie gets back to me with a more accurate shipping estimate. :)
-mike vtrpaulo Aug 18th, 2004, 12:59 PM I am!!! MCS - PW/B will be on its way tomorrow! Then onto Massachusetts, then to me in New Hampshire.
Any idea of the call sign for the Maersk Wind? I am sad enough to be tracking the shipping info - but cannot find the call sign for it. It is quite hard to find.
Ok, since the US Coast Guard site does not post the Maersk Wind's call sign, I did some searching on the web and I think I found the call sign for the Maersk Wind. It is S6TY. I found it on this site http://www.itu.int/cgi-bin/htsh/mars/ship_search.sh#start

Me too! Me too! Mine says 8/28, too! :D That means that even with the dealer prep and tint install I may have my baby around Sept 1st! Holy crap, I need to get moving....
mike - I'm glad that yours is also arriving at Classic so soon. If you decide to fly and drive back, let me know. Based on where Classic is, and where you're headed, I assume you would take I-80 the whole way. Even though that's north of here, it still might be fun to drive up and meet the caravan along the way to compare babies! :D asaulo1 Aug 18th, 2004, 03:09 PM Mike - here's an idea for you.... I know it would be a whole lot of fun driving our cars back from Ohio but what if we just rent a car hauler and haul our cars back from Classic.. we could go 50/50 on it and once I drop you off in Nor. Cal. I can drive mine home.... liljoe1o3o Aug 18th, 2004, 03:29 PM I have been told that my mini should be done by the 22nd of August. Anybody know the chances of my car getting on the ship sceduled for the 23rd??? mlebeau Aug 18th, 2004, 05:38 PM speed_racer,
That'd be great! Let's definitely do that if we end up driving. :) And I told you Sept 1 was a possibility! ;)
asaulo1,
That's a great idea, I had thought about that possibility, but do you know where we would rent such a truck, and how much it would cost? Also, it would depend on when your car is due to arrive?
edit: Just saw your post on NAM asaulo1 that your car's EDD is 8/27.. Sweet!
-mike speed_racer Aug 18th, 2004, 06:57 PM I have been told that my mini should be done by the 22nd of August. Anybody know the chances of my car getting on the ship sceduled for the 23rd???
It really depends. Helpful, I know. :) Anyway, it is not an exact science - you can get there early and miss a boat that comes a week after you get to the dock, or you could end up squeaking in on the 23rd. It depends on if they've over-booked the boat, then it seems to be arbitrary as to who makes it on. The best I can say is call the AskMini automated line on the 22-25th and see if your status goes from completed, to at the dock, to the always wonderful "en route". Also, if you've found your VIN on the WW site, you should be able to check it's online status after a day or two and see if it says loaded & sailed. If you're on K-Line or NYC, you can only find out from AskMini if you're moving. :D speed_racer Aug 18th, 2004, 07:00 PM speed_racer,

mike - I'm not denying it was a possibility, I just dared not hope with the way things have gone. That's me, ever the pessimist! :D joeyjoe9 Aug 18th, 2004, 07:48 PM Mike... how did you get an estimated arrival date on OL when mine is showing awaiting transport, when in fact, it is just off the coast on Newfoundland aboard the Patriot as I write this?
Anyway, looks like we'll all be picking up at Classic around the same time, though I don't have that long of a drive back home. Just about 40 miles. I have done that cross country road trip on I-80 before. Nebraska just seems to go on and on and on forever! tfaust Aug 18th, 2004, 09:02 PM My car is now in transit as well. I can hardly believe the wait will soon be over! mlebeau Aug 18th, 2004, 09:28 PM Mike... how did you get an estimated arrival date on OL when mine is showing awaiting transport, when in fact, it is just off the coast on Newfoundland aboard the Patriot as I write this?

I don't know, I could understand not having an EDD yet, but I don't know why yours doesn't say "en route" yet... The Caribbean Highway does get in 3 or 4 days before the Patriot, so it would make sense you wouldn't see your EDD yet for a few days, but I dunno why yours still says awaiting transport. I guess all that matters is that you know you're on the Patriot. :)
And yeah, I haven't decided about the drive yet. I would highly prefer to have it shipped if it could be done in a timely manner, just because then I'm not putting any miles/wear/bugs/rock chips on the car right away. If I do it, I will definitely be putting blue 'racer tape' all over the front bumper, mirrors, front of the roof, etc, to protect the brand new paint job. But to be honest I'd really rather have it just show up, but not if it means waiting 3 extra weeks or something! It would also be a bit of a pain to monitor the revs and make sure I'm varying them as much as possible on the trip - at least for the first 1250 miles. :)
-mike MadisonMini Aug 18th, 2004, 11:39 PM My Mini S Conv finished production on 8/16. Found out today it is booked on the Liberty.
Problem is, that ship doesn't even LEAVE Southamptom until 9/3, which means over 2 weeks at the docks in England.
Doesn't that seem a bit delayed?? Such a let down... sequence Aug 19th, 2004, 12:51 AM I called the automated system tonight (11:30pm MST) and was told my car is IN TRANSIT!! woo hoo!!! every second I sit here my MINI is inching closer and closer. Andy, when I read this message earlier I was elated, since there's a good chance ours rolled off the assembly line together. But when I called ASK-MINI the operator told me that "in Transit" doesn't automatically mean it's on the boat. According to them, there's a very broad definition for "In Transit": it can also mean that the although the car is booked for a ship that's not arrived or loaded or underway yet, IOW, it's sitting on the dock, released from Oxford's grip (thus the "In Transit" definition), waiting, like us, for something to happen (wow, the car waits like we do) ;) .
But I hope you're right: there's a "Week 33" thread going in "delivery" and some guy whose Mini was built the same week as us sez his's on the boat for Wuh-nay-may. If this is true, and all goes smooth "In Transit" and at the VDC, could it be around 9/25 for delivery? (given Schomp's track record, 90 days from production # issuance is normal, so I had 10/2 circled.) If U hear anything post; I'll do likewise. Jimbo MountainGal Aug 19th, 2004, 02:08 AM This is my very first post on Mini2, and I'm not really sure what I'm doing! I've participated in the MINIUSA Owners' Lounge, but this seems a little more complex! So, please be patient with me.
I need your help! My MINI, Frieda, was produced last week. She is awaiting transport in Southampton. Her VIN shows her booked on the Liberty, not scheduled to leave Southampton until September 3! So, I'm hoping that I can find somebody who could take a picture of her waiting there and email it to me. Unless, of course, you can get her on an earlier ship! Folks on the OL thought maybe one of you could help me, since this is a more international group. Any ideas?? FYI: Askmini is saying that I am loaded up on a vessel!!
The Southampton site (which I've been logging) has the Ho Jin as the last NYK vessel departing on 8/16 - no NYK or K-Line vessel has left since then.... I can't find online a route or schedule for HoJin... so don't even know if its headed CA way.....
Coast guard has the call letters as YJYN8 - so see if you can find it....
Let me know if anyone else is loaded and one the way; or if you've gotten a departure/arrival date from your MA!!! in the same "boat"... heard that dealers like to do delivery the same month as landing in the US... so Sept maybe the delivery date for those of us waiting at the doc or recently loaded..... Max Mini Aug 19th, 2004, 05:30 AM After 4-5 weeks from placing my order in early July, my S has moved into production. When I noticed this, I was quite happy and enjoyed watching the "birth canal video" and checking out how new wheels from tirerack would look.
After the initial excitement wore off, and several days have gone by, I now realize I may be waiting there in production status for awhile... I've never heard of a build date, either on line or from my dealer. I understand this just means it is getting closer. When I did order, I was told it might take 7-9 weeks to deliver; on my last visit to the dealer, I was told 10-11 weeks.
I don't see any of the order details (e.g. white roof, fog lamps) showing up on the web site; the dealer said this was normal. I'd have warmer fuzzies seeing the contrasting paint on there, though on reflection if I did end up with red/red, this would likely be far more unique than the red/white... though, hey, the contrasting color is a bonus as a no cost option! The video shows the masking and extra time and effort to paint the top, so it's not a minor expense (say, relatively, as fog lights or wheels might be).
Anyway, I guess we all hang in there. I'd have to guess the car is in fact in production this week, and I hope to see a change in the status by early next week. Anyone calculate how long a car stays in the production status on average?
Thanks, and Happy Motoring, Future Mini Mates!

That was similar to what I was told today too and I was slowly begining to realize that it may still be at the dock. But the more I thought about it, in the few days before, on one of my several calls to the automated system before it told me "in transit" it told me it was at the port of exit, so I told myself, the car has to be on a ship. Fastforward to this evening... I log on the NAM and MINI2 to find out cadbury's was on its way, and when I go to the OL it tells me "En route". So hopefully it really is on its way, and does get here on 9/25 which would be great as 9/28 is my birthday and getting the MINI on or near my birthday would be awesome!!
Andy MountainGal Aug 19th, 2004, 06:50 AM Hey there! My Frieda is scheduled to take the Liberty, but the ship isn't supposed to even depart til 9/3/04! :( Who else is on it?
