Congrats tfaust! Agreed about the LSD, but if you're really in need of one you could just install one aftermarket! :)

Looks like the August production gang is accumulating.
I'm still waiting for someone else with a west coast delivery (since BartMack is taking a xcountry trip ;) ) so that we can compare notes about shipping and delivery.

Does anyone know.... how long does it actually take to build a Mini?
One of the other threads said 22 hrs - but that seems very quick - can it really be less than 24 hrs?!

Some elements arrive pre-assembled, like the dash, and of course engine, and tranny... and they just slip them in... plus I think it's done in stages? like bodyshop, paintshop, etc..but there used to be an FAQ thread that I think said exactly how long...

I just read on Motoringfile.com that they are running 24/7 now trying to keep up

Cadbury,

When did your MINI get ordered, to give you a week 33 date?

Ordered on 7/7/04 from Mini N. Scottsdale, AZ
sent email to ASK MINI and they told me 8/13 build week (don't know if I can trust it, though)

you're week 32? right?

mlebeau
Jul 14th, 2004, 02:05 AM
Yep, week 32 as far as I know (ordered on 6/28 - I said 6/30 somewhere else, disregard that, had my dates wrong). That's what they tell me on the phone, but only when I talk to a human. When I ask the automated service it tells me simply "scheduled for production, with no confirmed production date yet." I'm happy to go on believing what the real humans say. :)

I finally did it! I am a voyeur no more. My order was accepted last thursday (7/8/04) and I am waiting for an official production schedule. My dealer faxed me the order confirmation and it says that I have a requested production date of 2004/08/32...must be week 32?
I ordered from the East coast and will have it shipped to the West coast when she arrives. Hopefully that will be mid-Sept!!!
Just wanted to join in the conversation to help pass the agony er, time.

The heading above my requested date (also 2004/08/32) says [Yr/Mo/Wk], so yes I'd guess week 32 or week of August 6th if others are correct.

But it says the same date for "Req. Prod", "Sub. Prod", and "Conf. Prod"

Could the dates still change?

Also, it is normal for the owner's Lounge to only include the basics for the car (i.e. color, model, year)?

Cadbury,
I also ordered from Mini N. Scottsdale, so I suspect my shipping and delivery experience will be the same as yours. Maybe we can find someone getting one from CA, NV, or UT?

Send an email to ASK MINI (Motorers@askMINIUSA.COM) with your production number, and see if they can tell you what your production week is. Or call the number 866-ask-mini and speak to a person. The automated system and the OL don't have as much info.

I'd be into sharing schedule notes etc as we find more info about the process and status.

It would almost have to be either body color or black top for me - I don't think the white would be as nice with it.

That said, while not IB (my first choice), I wouldn't kick it out of bed, either. ;) :D

re the great anthracite shortage of 04-- think we (and others who ordered early) may have snuck in?? Will our cars get the AH? Jimbo

Yes, I think so. ;)

I have not heard anything other than that one person's post that it 'would no longer be available'.... honestly, I'm not convinced :p tho after the Hyper Blue flip-flop who knows
I did read a while back on Motoringfile that there might be some parts shortages early in the MY as they ramped up production of new options (they were talking specifically about chromeline dash trim I think) but it would look ridiculous for MINI to just drop it after 2 weeks of production...

If a shortage really exists, I'd think it to be a temporary short supply of anthracite components due to unexpected popularity.... so not to worry :D

I hope it is alright to "sit in" on the August Production group. Today or tomorrow I get my production number and the dealer told me my MCS would arrive in mid-September, so I assume (not always a good idea!) mine will be built in August. I finally got a reasonable wait time from Knauz near Chicago. Portland said 10-12 months and Utah said six but then told me they had no allocations for August. After dealer prep and the addition of the Aero front unit it will be shipped by covered rail car to Seattle which is supposed to take about a week. Then it is a couple of hours drive north to fetch it.

Well, it looks like I am in the August group with you all, week #32, production #7456XXX. I would post my spec, but there have been some issues (see here: http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65051 ).

As for the anthracite headliner, when I was trying to sort out my spec with my MA this morning I told her I wanted the anthracite headliner. She stated they had just gotten a memo regarding the availablity (or lack there of) of the anthracite headliner and wasn't sure I could get it now. I told her about seeing everyone speccing it here and mentioned there might be a few ticked off people if Mini yanked it without informing those who already ordered! Anyway, here's to hoping all of us get what we want. Cheers! :D

When I went through the specs with my MA he said nothing about anthracite being in short supply. I guess I should check with him tomorrow to make sure.

Just called 1-866-ASK MINI (1-866-275-6464) to ponder why my options were missing from the owner's lounge. According to their information all options appeared to be correct, including the Anthracite headliner.

Confirmed build week #32. first week of August.

Forgive my ignorance, but is the Anthracite headliner a darker shade of grey compared to the regular headliner?

mlebeau
Jul 16th, 2004, 12:41 AM
That's right, Wetworth. If you do a search you can find some pics, although somewhat small. Personally, I decided against it just because I like a little bit of contrast.

Yeah, it's really a useless page isn't it? :p My options don't show up either.

They should add a webcam so we can see the production like go by :D :D :D

My dealer suggested the Anthracite but I opted not to order it because I figured it would only make the interior look smaller... to each their own though. I'm glad I made the right decision for myself however.

BartMack,

A webcam would be nice. Thought I read about a car manufacturer doing that already. Was it VW?
The whole owner's Lounge is new to me. I suspect to most of us. Do they send a picture when the car is done?

Wetworth,

I suppose combined with dark gray seating and no sunroof, it might appear confining inside. Hopefully the sunroof and cordoba beige will lighten up the interior.

Is it even possible to make a bad choice?

It sounds like those you actually had the anthracite option in place are getting it but those of us who didn't (thanks to my MA not believing me in June when I told her there was going to be an anthracite headliner, then entering my order without notifying me) are SOL. One good thing, she swears she got my order corrected. But she says I couldn't get the anthracite because "I just checked about the Anthracite liner and they discontinued it due to cost." So, I am going to try ASK Mini and see what the say, but I may just have to end up with the regular liner. But at least the rest of my MCS should be correct :p :

'05 Electric Blue MCS
white roof/mirrors
white bonnet stripes
white s-lites (I know they're hard to keep clean, but when they are... whew! :D )
premium pack
cold pack
sport pack
HK stereo
gray leatherette
silver dash and trim
gray liner (maybe anthracite?)

future (hopeful mods):
custom bonnet & boot stripes
custom roof graphic
whalen shift knob
cooler wheels with better feeling tires than the run flats
cold air intake
new pully
new exhaust

that ought to do it for a while :D :D

After placing my order on July 2 and not hearing anything back on owners lounge or the automated phone system, I talked to customer service rep. today and said I was tentatively scheduled for Week No. 32, though it was not confirmed. He said if it wasn't 32, it would be the next week.

What's the hold up?

Also, does anybody have an estimated time of arrival for their MCS in the states for build week 32 or 33?

Thanks

I'm week 32 and I'm in Kansas City (so not too far from you). I was told my MCS would arrive by the 2nd week in Sept. :D
