Mike & Frankie - just got off the phone with Fred of concours and he said he still hasn't heard from Mitch and where he currently is. He says that it might be Monday before I see the car. I told him that would be the best scenario so I can take delivery for myself. He said that he will call me once he hears from Mitch and he or Mitch will definitely contact me prior to delivery giving me enough time to make arrangements. By the way, I also gave him my CC no. for payment so at least that's all squared away.

Hmm... Alfredo, hope Mitch did not run away with all of our cars and Fred has already charged your CC !! ;) j.k. Curious, do you notice that if you look closer to the pics we have, that paper sticks to the windshield actually has our names on it identifying which one is which.

Frankie, yeah I noticed that from the showroom pics, hehe, I have very good eyes, it says "Congratulations Mike LeBeau", etc. Nice touch. Also did you notice that it appears they took our antennas off the cars before putting them in the truck? They're on in the lineup picture, and off in the loading pictures. Smart of them. :)

Congrate, BrantV !! Next week, seems many of us here will finally be able to talk from experience of driving, instead of dreaming and exciting about it. :)

Thanks.

I'm excited for all of us. Only 5 days to go. Your cars look like they've been well prepped and are in great hands. What's with the plate numbers?

I guess it's time to clean up and sweep the garage this weekend. That and figure out what other accessories to buy like (floor mats, cargo net, wheel locks, etc...).

Luckily I have great coworkers and have been able to carpool this week, but being sans wheels is really fueling the anticipation.

I think those are temporary plates which are required in OH for new cars... I don't know if they'll be necessary in CA or not!

I finally got my license plates today for my MCS! Just FYI for you Cali folks who ordered from Classic. They do not install the front license plate bracket, so I had to drill it myself today. You'll probably have to do the same. The casing should be in the boot when you pick up your car. But you'll need to get your own screws and a drill, of course.

Joey, cool, ya get good numbers? :) I'm aware that Classic doesn't install the front plate and I prefer it that way - makes it look worse IMO and drilling into the bumper is even worse! If I were you I would have just ziptied it to the lower grill or something - in fact that's my plan, if I ever get caught for not having it on. I didn't put the front plate on my last car and got one fix-it ticket, just $10 and put it on temporarily, show a cop, have them sign it, then take it off. :) I'm hoping to not even have to bother with that with the MINI (knock on wood), but if I do it's no big deal, and definitely worth it to have the looks without the plate.

Unfortunately, the ticket in Ohio for not having a front license plate is $90. I also seem to be a magnent for cops for speeding or not wearing a seatbelt that I couldn't take the risk of not putting it on.

mlebeau
Sep 18th, 2004, 03:21 AM
Damn, $90 that really sucks. Yeah I know what you mean about being a magnet for that sort of thing, sorry to hear it. It's not like it looks bad with it on there or anything, so nothing to worry about. :)

Actually, I think whether a cop gives you a fix-it ticket, just depends on whether you're lucky or not. There are like at least 30-40% of the cars out there not having the front license plate installed, you can easily find at least 2 to 3 cars w/o a plate in one block. Those cars I saw included very junky old cars to the most expensive cars like MB, BMW, lexus, etc. I originally thought I will put mine, but since I saw the pics we got, think I will take the risk, especially since those holes are not predrilled.

Yeah, I think that line-up was cool too.
BTW, think we don't mean to get on people's nerves. In fact, I don't think we are really hijacking this thread now, after I re-read the name of this section of the forum, it is for 'Delivery, Shipping & Order Tracking'. We have been discussing issues surrounding these topics, just that we happened to be the most frequent visitors (possibly) within this thread and make use of this thread more than others. ;) .... I know, I know ... someone will soon say ..."Whatever" :)

4 Days.

Time to revisit What to do while waiting for you MINI (http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58675). At least it should give me something to do.

Doesn't look like the iPod adaptor is going to make it. Still waiting for backlog of BMWs version to clear. So time to make some CDs and research roadside attractions for the trip home. Like seeing a redwood up close (http://www.treesofmystery.net/skytrail.htm) or victorian houses in ferndale (http://www.victorianferndale.org/chamber/
).

Get the aux port, it's the best $40 you'll ever spend on your MINI.

Yeah, and like I said, worst case all you have to do is ziptie it to your lower grill. Wouldn't look too bad at all.

The aux input is indeed $40 but that does not include installation, so it ends up being over $100.

I'd rather wait for Apple's iPod connector since I have the MFSW and want to be able to skip songs.

For me it's a better option.

Joey - that's if you pay for install.. it's so insanely easy to install yourself that paying to have it done seems crazy in my eyes.

Brant - yeah I'm looking forward to the iPod adapter too, but I figured since I won't want to be without my music collection, for $40 it is worth it to me to have that for the time being, and I can easily temporarily wire in the aux adapter without drilling etc, just leave it hanging behind the euro parcel shelf... then take it out when I get the iPod adapter, and maybe sell it for $20 or something. For $20 or so, it's worth it to me to have that for now and not worry about when I can get myself the iPod adapter.

Good job, GS. You're not even part of this production group and here you're encouraging them to continue on with all of this chatter only because U find it "funny" that it irritates others? Are you this malevolent off M-2??

Before your post I was only mildly irritated, only because a friend of newbie mine who wished to post here didnt because she'd been reading the last 10 pages or so and didnt think her post fit in. "Seems like a pretty exclusive group focused on Classic MINI shipping to Cal," she remarked.

And I agree. Godspeed to the truck driver to get these guys their cars as fast as possible, so they can go over to the New Owner thread and (hopefully) not hijack that one. Jimbo

Not a bad thought, except for $20 I can burn about 80 CDs ($0.25 each) worth of music. And if I try the MP3 route, I can put over 100 songs per CD. I'll try a couple MP3 CDs and a dozen or so regular CDs.

So you opted for the parcel shelf too. Are you having it installed, or doing it yourself? I'm going the DIY route on the parcel shelf and alarm. I've read the instructions (need to print them to pdf before leaving) several times, and they seem easy enough.

Anyone finding it extremely easy to talk to your dealer, parts department, and service manager in this pre-delivery mindset? What I mean is that I've been in such an excited mood, I'm finding it difficult to contain myself and am helpless to reel in the exuberance. Each and every phone conversation has been very pleasant. I'm exceedingly happy and impressed with their professional, and polite manners so far.

Burning 80 CD's is certainly one plan, but (1) I have no need for 80 CD's of MP3's beyond use in the car, so it would essentially be a waste, (2) I don't want to have 80 CD's floating around in my new MINI, and (3) given that, I would only bring a few CD's at a time, and that gives me limited access to my music, requiring me to decide before a trip what I want, and that's not my style. :)

Classic MINI is giving me the euro parcel shelf for free, and they installed it as well. I believe they put it in every new MINI they sell, or maybe Julie is just nice.

Rather than shy away. It's a shame she didn't share, so we'd all have someone else to feel good for.

Although this isn't a west coast or even North America forum, I think what we're observing is that the further away, and longer it takes to arrive, the more time we have to post. Requiring shipment through the Panama Canal just gives us that much more time to spend here and something in common above just receiving MINIs that were produced in August.

Due to shared delivery and an incredible MA, four individuals have been brought closer than most.

I'd imagine that at this point all UK deliveries for August production have been made. As time goes on, It's only going to be those distant locations (i.e South America, South Africa, west coast USA) that will be left in here still waiting for their august builds.

Most MINIs are shipped elsewhere, so where is everybody?

BrantV

... or maybe Julie is just nice.

Maybe?

From all accounts I've read so far, she's a Super MA with one large referral base.

And not 80 CDs (that's what I could burn for $20), more like $2 - $3 worth (8-12) is what I'll be burning for the trip home. I'll keep it in mind though. Perhaps it's time to review the instructions (http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?faq=faq_interior#faq_faq_aux_input) again for that install.

Apparently it's easier for Left-hand drive vehicles if you remove the driver's side knee bolster. Hey I'm going to do just that when I replace it. So perhaps I'll go for it.

mlebeau
Sep 19th, 2004, 05:33 AM
Hehe you're right, I didn't mean it like that, Julie has been truly phenomenal in all respects. Thanks for the link to the instructions, I will look over those soon, that'll be a good time-killer till the car arrives. :)

My car has been at the dealer in Chicago for a week now and it is ready for shipment to Portland. It was to go last week but there was a problem with getting it from the dealership to the railyard. So, it will go out this coming week and arrive on the 30th or 1st. :( My MA did say he would email some photos and said the solid red look good with the aero kit. I hope we all get our cars soon so we can compare notes on our first experiences. I still think a get together at some point of the west coast August folks would be fun. Perhaps we could meet somewhere along the coast on 101 :D
