Frankie - see what you made me do..... stripes are in place... magnetic which was pretty cool... the right one looks like it wasn't cut right so I have to request a new one... the left one was pretty perfect.....

Hay, that's good. Just my 2c (hope you don't mind) ... the magnetics look nice, but I think they don't reflect much as the decal does. The reflection on the stripes you have in the pic seems not too shiny, so I think if you want that permanent, may be still go with the decals. :)

I have a question/comment....

When you get out of the MINI (driver's side) and go to open the boot... its locked! - right?
and the only way to open it is on the key???

am I missing something?

'cause this is kinda frustrating me when I put my laptop in the boot to go to work, and when I get there, I can't get it out without the key..... and boy, I'm having a hard time learning which knob does what... I keep having to look at it.

(on travel in Salt Lake City so I can't go and try things to figure it out)

Also - the redline part of my tachometer is at 6500 - or somewhere thereabouts.... is that where all the Cooper S's are???? I just don't remember it being that high!!! There are other little lines from about 5500 up, but they don't light up red.

Probably because everyone from the August production group is out having fun driving their brand new cars.

Except me of course because I'll be the last person in the August production group to receive his car.

Called the dealer today, told me my car was loaded on a truck last friday. Which is funny because that's what the told me 2 weeks ago.

Oh well, I get to keep reading about how much fun you're all having while I keep calling my dealer and having them tell me "it will be any day now".

Can't you unlock your car using the toggle switch? Once the car is unlocked using the toggle switch, the boot is unlocked also.

The wait is horrible, but it is worth it. (And the best news is how quickly the memory of the pain disappears once you are behind the wheel!)

Oh, by the way, according to the OL, my car finally arrived at the dealer today! (LOL, nothing like up to date information!)

The wait is terrible, but it just make you love your car much more when you got it. Like me, I have driven it everyday since it was here. Today, I don't drive it and I missed it already while I'm driving to work. I have evening class in a local college and do not want to park my baby in the college parking lot, so I drive my 4x4 today.

Update on my side is I am done with all the CA registration, got the license plate, installed already (the rear one). :) This 2nd time to DMV was not too bad (because I have made appointment), except the DMV couldn't figure out which make should the Mini use, is it BMW or Mini. Finally, they goes with Mini, since the OH title said it and the final decision from verification officier is Mini, that took like 15 min to figure out. Overall, still not bad.:)

Mike - how about you? anyone else do something to their babies? :)

Hehe, Frankie, I have to park in a college parking lot all the time! I haven't even been able to cover the car yet, since I haven't been able to wash it because of the ClearBra. Now I can wash it and cover it, I just need to find the time. My poor baby just sits out there in the elements!

That's good, Frankie, I got my smog test and I'm about to make my DMV appt. Hopefully it'll go as smoothly as yours. Did they send you your license plate or somehow have it for you at the DMV?

No mods for me, still just enjoying the hell out of the car. My plan is to enjoy the car stock for as long as possible until I start to feel the itch. I do have the Ian Cull auto-up circuit to install, just haven't gotten around to it yet. :)

I understand what you guys are saying about the wait, but as a I notice you're both in Cali where you can keep driving the car all the time.

The last few weeks here in Wisconsin have been amazing, 75 and sunny with a nice breeze. Made me all the more bitter I hadn't received the car yet.

Now the days are starting (already) to get colder. Should I still buy the car now (even though my dealer STILL doesn't know when it's coming in, just to make payments on it during the winter while I drive my SUV?

Or, and this is what I'm thinking, cancel my order and start over later so the car will be here in the Spring?

I'm not sure what to do...I really want it now, but part of me says maybe it wasn't meant to be at this time and I should restart again in the winter for delivery in the spring.

MadisonMini, IMO, you should wait, otherwise, you will start all over with those "which ship am I on?" or "when will I get the production number?" things. You have overcome like 90% of the process already, so stick with the last ten miles of the road you have.

For the DMV things, though I'd already mentioned once, let me do this again ...

Before going to DMV ...
1) SMOG check
2) Mail the required paper the SMOG inspector provided, after the test passed, to some CA air control dept (don't remember exactly).

For registration part ...

1) Make an appointment
2) Be there on the appt date about 30-45min prior to the appt.
3) Drive the car into the inspection lane and wait for the inspector.
4) Make sure (s)he sees the tag under the bonnet saying this car meets CA emission standard, and make sure he checks the box in the form for that.
5) Park you car, when done with inspection.
6) Go in to information counter, tell'em you have an appt and get the number, then wait for call.
7) At the officier counter, give them the title, financial paperworks and stuffs
8) Pay the tax and stuffs
9) Bring the paper from the officier to another counter to pick up the license plate and stickers.
10) Done.

As some of you know I was in the DMV last Fri and did not get the inspection because I started with step (6) and by the time I get to the officier, she told me the inspectors are gone for the day. Also, I cannot reuse the appt for inspection, since it was used already for seeing her. Also, she asked me for the title, I did not have it because actually I did not receive it until over the last weekend.

I am financing my car, so once I receive the CA title few weeks from now, I have to mail that to the lien holder.

Hope this help for all of you that need to register in CA.

fs-mini,

you know, i probably won't be that way a second time. part of doing that now was trying to time getting the car and how long it would still be nice here.

if i order it in the middle of winter when it's freezing here, i'm not going to really care when it comes in as long as it does...

i'm about to call me dealer and tell him if the car isn't there this thursday for me to pickup, it's off...

i know i said last saturday as my cutoff, but my ride had her appendix removed the night before, so i wasn't really thinking about my car on saturday :)

Mike, I'm like you, a "stockist," and I really don't plan any mods for awhile except one: the K&N High-flow panel air filter. A friend swapped out his OEM element for the K&N and it literally breathed more life--and power--into his 04 S!

Check out MiniMania, they're on sale thru thursday. At $55, they're not cheap, but they're supposed to last a million miles with frequent cleaning and oiling. Jimbo

sequence, don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not a 'stockist'. I modified the crap out of my last car (A4 1.8t). I'm just living in that new car glee for the time being, but I imagine some pretty heavy mods are in my MINI's future. Just trying to delay the itch as long as possible since it's a very expensive itch to scratch. ;) I've actually already decided to go the Mini Mania staging route if I am going to do it. I know this isn't common but I came to the decision for a lot of reasons, one main one being that when I get started with mods, I'm not going to want to stop till I get to about Stage 3 power, so might as well go with a company providing all that already. :) I've got a whole plan worked out for whenever the itch starts. Who knows, maybe with this car it won't start and I'll be happy with stock, we'll see. :)

Well, maybe don't bet on me...because I'm not taking delivery if I can't pick it up Thursday afternoon, which is probably a safe bet since I didn't receive a call (or receive a callback today) from my dealer.

Which means it has to show up tomorrow and they prep it for me by thursday...if it shows up thursday, but they don't have it prepped for pickup on that day, then they're keeping it.

Then I'll take my planned downpayment, place it into savings for a few months, make about $5 in interest :p , and start over again in the middle of winter (with another dealer of course) for delivery in the Spring.

Perhaps we need to do a list of the August cars and who has received theirs so far and the date it was delivered.. Mine is supposed to be here Thursday for a Friday pickup, mine will be "delivered" on October 1st. How many August builds will get their cars later in October?

Here is my contribution to the list:

John in Vancouver 05MCS on the train to Portland, ETA 9/30.

So U cant drive it at all in the winter up there in Madison? Even with the all-season tires, MINIs are really quite good in the snow and ice, as long as it's not say more than 4 inches deep unplowed. I'll drive mine here (CO) in the winter, but not right before, when, and after it snows, mostly because of that nasty caustic MagChloride de-icer they hose down the major highways and streets with (worse than salt, this stuff does major damage to car's undermechanics if U don't clean it off.) We have lots of sunny warm days in our winters tho, and I'll relish driving around with my sunroof open and the heated seats on

Hate to see U give it up on what sounds like very cool car because you're not going to drive it much this winter and still have to make payments. I'll be in the same boat, but I've waited too long for both a new car--and a MINI--and won't wait any longer. Cheers

Mike, when your car was delivered, where was the stupid DOT yellow airbag warning decal affixed, the one the dealers can't remove? Reason I ask is on other cars I've seen (non-05s) the sticker on the dash front right above the glove box, and I notice U have interior body color trim like I.

Please tell me the sticker is not on the dash's painted surface, because I had a MINI nightmare last nite that it was, and when I tried to peel it off the paint came off with the sticker  :( (Man am I going mental with this agonizing wait. May rename my MCS "Straggler.") Jimbo

Ps anyone else with a painted dash out there?

mlebeau
Sep 30th, 2004, 12:57 AM
Hehe, sequence, it was in fact on the dash, but I don't think there's any risk of it taking the paint with it, certainly not if you go slow. That paint is on there good. So don't worry about it too much. :)

CR dash is gonna look badass - I saw it on a dealer car a few weeks ago, and it's gorgeous. Hope you have yours soon! :)

Umm, sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but the body colored dash is plastic and I really don't think its painted, I think its molded that color, but I'm not 100% sure about how the color is applied.

It still looks very nice, and I wouldn't worry about removing the airbag sticker, it comes off very easily.
