I feel like a loser, I'm still about 100 miles shy of break-in, and I've had it a month!!! I did do one long weekend drive to Sedona, but for the most part work has been over the top lately and I don't live too far from work so not driving going on. Couple that with the fact that I still have my old vehicle (which I am selling) that I drive at least a day of week to keep it "fresh", and the numbers make sense. But man, do I love driving that car!

Mileage has been good, too. Last tank I manually calculated 31 MPG, the trip computer had something else. Only problem I have is that the H/K stereo can sometimes sound like the speaker is loose at medium to high volumes. I'll address that when I take it in.

tfaust, I can't remember, do you have a Cooper or a Cooper S? Those mileage numbers are impressive considering I'm getting ~22-24mpg on my MCS. :(

I gotta do the manual calculation next tank. Based on the onboard computer, I never get over 25mpg, but that kinda make sense in my case because I go local from home to work, only weekends, I drive on freeway. Anyway, will do a manual calculation next time.

BTW, I am receiving the Mini arm-rest this afternoon. It will be at my mailstop at work at 3pm, so it will be my next mod to the car. Will post pics later of the week after I installed it, if someone cares. :)

I guess I'm the only one left from the "classic" gang that hasn't reached the "break in" point yet.... to my defense, it's been raining hard here the last couple of days so I'm driving my mini van to work.... I've been itching to drive my mini more since I've installed the ALTA CAI..... hopefully, this weekend will allow me to do that and go past break in so I can have some REAL FUN.... in addition, we have that Randy Webb/M7 pulley party this weekend not far from me so I guess I'll come visit and shoot the breeze with the other mini folks..... guys, I have a dumb question ...... how do you turn on the xenon headlamp washers? is it part of the wiper/washer deal?

Alfredo, lucky you are so close to M7, so you can check out their parts, like the front splitter that I interested in. Anyway, at least you have been driving your 'mini' van to work, so you are still driving 'mini' :D

For the headlamp washer, I havn't tried it yet, but if I remember correctly from last time I read the manual, it will be activated when you have your headlamp on and wash your windshield (by pulling the right hand wiper rod toward yourself). Meaning while you're washing your windshield, the lamps are being washed at the same time.

Wow, I'm averaging 29.5 (w/1860 miles) with some verrrrrrry :D spritied mixed driving here in the last 800 miles or so (and have had the car up to 120mph once  stable as a rock :D .)

This was reported by OBC and verified by basic pump math. Weird about these variances. Jimbo

PS I have used about 1/2 quart of oil tho

Crazy, sequence and tfaust, you guys are lucky. :) I would have guessed that it's the quality of the gas, but my friend Peter has an 05 and is getting the same as me, and lives in Chicago where he can get 93. I'm stuck with this stupid old 91 octane. :(

31 !! wow! that's great!! I need to do the manual calc, 'cause my OBC never goes about 25 !! but then, I have a long traffic ridden drive to work and have always had the a/c on....

I think I also need to add oil.... I don't like the dipstick, I think its really hard to read. I've also found one other thing that annoys me... When the door is closed, its very hard to get the seatbelt.... you have to make it move below the hefty door handle.... maybe that's just because of where I have the seat set....... but I'm going to have to get into the habit of putting on the seat belt before closing the door.....

BartMack - I can't believe you haven't passed break-in yet!! of the people left in this thread, I think you were the first to get your car......

HI all! I've been watching you all and finally had time to say something.

First, I'm at 2400 mi since 10/1. Soooo much fun. :D BartMack - shame on you, you were the first to get your car! Well, hopefully you can get some time with it and get over that 1250 mark. ;)

Alfredo - Rain, shmain. It's been raining here for the last three days. :p JK As for the washers, as someone said, the headlights do have to be on, but you also have to really hold the windshield washer position for a few seconds. If you do a quick burst of water, the headlight ones won't come on, but if you hold it for a good soaking of the windshield you'll hear this neat little whirring sound and the headlight washers will pop out.

tfaust - do a search around here and you'll find very good instructions about fixing the buzzing in your passenger H/K speaker. It sounds like 90% of us '05 H/K people have that problem and apparently most Mini dealers are clueless as to how to fix it. It seems to be a very quick fix with some felt around the speaker. Try checking the interior/ICE forum section especially.

mike - I, too am only getting 22.5 mpg. The OBC says 24, but I always calc 22-23. It's very frustrating, not because I expected some miraculous mpg like a Prius, but I at least expected the posted mpg of 26! And then to hear people like sequence say they have 31 with similar driving conditions is super frustrating. I drive about 5 mi on surface roads, then 20 miles on interstates to get to work every day. I never really rap it out, I vary my RPMs, but I don't baby it either. Oh, and I did obey the rules during break-in. It's really very weird the range that we've all seen.

Anyway, glad you've all been having fun. Motor on! :D

we sure have varying mpg's.... I, myself, am only getting the same as the other folks, like Mike, 22-24 mpg but I only have "city" driving.... I try to take it on the FWY once and a while and take it up to around 90 mph as prescribed..... I know one thing is that this ALTA CAI will definitely make it even harder to stop my foot from mashing the accelerator... it seems that it just wants to jump now on 1st and 2nd... and the SC whine is so nice... I know that I might not be getting the full effect since I did put on a "madness cowl" instead of taking the whole firewall thingy out..... but it still is very addicting.... and I guess it's also due to the lighter wheels/tires combo as well......

Gosh I regularly see 17 and 18 mpg on my OBC, but it's all suburban metropolis driving, rarely freeway at all. I usually keep my OBC tuned to temperature, mpg kinda saps the fun out of "spirited driving" :p :D

Cadbury

I've been keeping my OBC on mph... I just can't get the hang of looking at the actual speedo.... and then I had it on consumption, and was TOTALLY ignorant of speed - I need to get the hang of the big speedo!

ok - here's something: I keep spinning the tires taking off in 1st.... it almost feels like I'm driving on ice! I think its because I"m either accelerating too much, or not enough and then compensating..... I've got the hang of the other gears, but taking off in 1st still needs work...

rained in AZ !!!! so my MINI's all WET!!! It NEVER rains here... so it took me over an hour (usually 25/30 mins) to get home!!! I LOVED using the back windshield wiper, and it seems to me that the car really handles the rain well... I've never felt so secure... and the wipers do a really good job getting the most of the windshield - I was very impressed.

Just watch out for the "boot goo" that might make a appearence just above your MINI badge-- evidently it comes from the rear wiper washer jet then interacts with the rubber trim, creating this gooey residue that's pretty heinous. You need to use bug and tar remover to get it off the clear coat and chrome polish on the chrome, because it does stain. I know there's a thread somewhere here or NAM about 05s having this problem, but I cant find it. Jimbo

I usually put my OBC at the digital speed, I rarely use/look at the big speedo at the center, since I found the digital speed is very convenient.

Here are couple of pics of the Mini armrest installed. There is another thread saying Classic is getting these armrests before the release date (http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74710)

I may loosen the bolts again and slide mine back further after seeing your pics. I pushed it as far forward as it would go, and it's touching the ebrake handle when it's pulled.

It feels like it should have always been there, I like it :)

Actually, when I installed mine and slip the mount points under the seat rail, there was a click sound (both left and right sides) once the hole of the screw and the mounting hole aligned, there's where I stop pushing and seems that is the right position.

speed_racer, I don't think I got an 'ejector' sticker.. Was your package the same as the one in the picture gallery on my site? Sounds like you may have gotten something different.

As for the oil change, it's a bit pricey 'round these parts, I went to an independent German shop I've worked with before (nice because it's close enough to walk to and from home), they charged about $40 for labor, $7.50 for the filter, and I bought my own Redline 5w30 oil. :) GreyStreet, why are you so curious where people are getting their oil changed? You can take the car to any decent shop, although I would advise against a Jiffy Lube or similar. Preferably take it somewhere where they are familiar with German cars, especially BMWs, and preferably somewhere that has a good reputation (from friends, relatives, etc). The price won't be much different from a crap job like Jiffy Lube but you can rest a little easier knowing a good job was definitely done.

Oh, and I didn't take it to the dealer. It seems so often that dealers don't really take any care of the cars they have in for service that I try to avoid them as much as possible. I haven't had any experience with the MINI dealers around here, but the general rule of thumb is, go to the dealer for free warranty service, avoid for everything else, unless you like high prices, low quality, and long waits. :)

Mike, I was curious because I didn't want to bring it to the dealer and pay $100 for an oil change.
