If we wanted to worry, we could hope our MINIs don't encounter one of these while at sea.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3917539.stm

"Over the last two decades more than 200 super-carriers - cargo ships over 200m long - have been lost at sea."

I saw that article too!
Last year [? or some months ago, I forget] a cargo ship full of Hyundais sunk
They didn't mention a killer wave tho :p I really think ours will be ok :)

In the owner's lounge the status still says "on order". Last time I ASKMINI they told me that I'm looking at the 16th or 23rd of August. I called this morning and was told the estimated start is week 32 (first week of August) and finish would be week 34. I hope those are reliable dates. So, a tentative WHOOOOOPIE!! :D :D

Just called ASK.MINI to track my order, though it is still 'On Order' at the OL, it is confirmed for the 2nd wk of August and my P# is 4760xxx, ordered on 07/13. Also asked him why the 'Factory Ordered Options' is still blank, he said that actually that field will not be updated until the car is finished production. Good to know. :)

Just called again to ASK.MINI, mine will be started and finished production between Aug9 and Aug13, which will be next next week, that's great!! Also, when I asked for the production code, the 3-digit one, was told that they don't use that number any longer because it doesn't provide much detail about it (?). :)

Are you actually buying your Mini in SF?

Are you actually buying your Mini in SF?

Of course not, otherwise, won't be able to get on the list for the August production, or have to pay $2500 for markup. I am also one of those ordering from Classic Mini. :)

Yep, glad you made the right decision Frankie. :) Maybe we'll meet at MINI delivery time.

That may be right, possibly we can cross inspect the cars together, and at least have a witness for each other in case we did find something not right. :)

I'm SO behind!! I hate being a wk 33 and all you wk 32's are ahead!! With hope, I will catch up to you tomorrow!!

How about you, tfaust? any news about your production status??

Still says "no confirmed production date" . I spoke to a person at ASK-MINI last Friday and still have no good feel for what week.

They're just trying to delay me long enough to cancel the anthracite headliner!

Do the Production numbers mean anything, or are they just sequential numbers and your car gets the next one up?

I finally got a production number (74668XX) and an August build date for a Cooper S Convertible ... although I did not get a week number yet. Its been a long wait for this car and finally I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Cooper S Convertible
Hot Orange Metallic with Panther Black Leather
Cold weather / Premium / Sports packages
Hot Orange interior panels & Chrono Pack
White Bonnet stripes

I've been told that this will be one of the first convertibles available in the US!

BartMack

That's the first MCSC I've heard of..... I didn't even know that S convertibles would be available yet, I thought it was Cooper-only for the first few months with the S coming later.

Congratulations!! That's one way to solve the anthracite headliner dilemma :D

(Oh yeah, great 1st post, welcome to MINI2! I gave you a reputation boost to get you started ;) )

Congrats, Sportty! Post when you get it, maybe I'll come up to SF to see her! Sounds great! :) Welcome to MINI2! (By the way, did you previously drive a TT? Your name suggests it's possible...)

Mike: You've got a good eye! SPORTTY is my licence plate on my current car. (I'm trading in my 2002 TT Coupe for my Mini.) I'm sure I'll miss aspects of the TT (especially the overall quality of the interior), but I think the MCSC should fulfill the fun aspect!

I am hoping to move the license plate to the new car! I think SPORTTY will fit well on it too.

Sportty,

I'm used to looking for such things after 4 years on AudiWorld. :) My last car was a 2000 A4 1.8t, so I'm familiar with the same 1.8t/quattro joys you've experienced. :) But I still can't wait for my MINI, and I'm sure you'll be thrilled with the new car. Check out www.norcalminis.com for the area's MINI club - they offer lots of fun events, and a good community. Again, welcome to MINI2, and hope to see you around. :)

Yay! Finally some good news today! Baxter finished paint today and is in the assembly area - code 153 - and is scheduled for completed production Monday, 8/2, right on schedule! :D :D Good boy Baxter!

Now I just need to get my VIN to be recognized on the WW site and I'll be able to obsess about him catching the next boat.

Mike - It looks like yours will finish right after mine - hopefully they can keep each other company on the boat. :D

Yippee! I've now moved from order to Scheduled for Production ... and I even have my VIN number already assigned! This is too cool! I guess its time for me to start calling ASKMINI to get my week number!

When do they assign a VIN number? Will it be when they actually begin building the car?

speed_racer,

I think there's a good chance of that. :)

I guess its time for me to start calling ASKMINI to get my week number!

Since those of us with week #32 builds started getting VIN numbers at about this time last week, I'd guess you might be a week #33 or at worse a week #34. The month really starts to run out of weeks fast if you go much further than that. :)

Congratulations.

Remember. This is therapy. So lets keep up the distractions, while our MINIs incubate.

When does (or did) week #31 officially end. Close of business on Friday? If the plant is open 24-7 like a 7-11 store (or should that be 7-24?), then when is close of business? 5:00 PM? Midnight?

Whichever date, I'm assuming it was GMT and hence long past. So we're officially in week #32 now.

P.S. Why does 7-11 have locks on the door if they're never closed?

Mine is confirmed to start and finish building in the week ending of Aug13, but the status still not yet moved from 'order' to 'schedule' (from OL) :( BTW, what week number is that week of Aug13? Anyone knows?

BartMack
Jul 31st, 2004, 01:23 PM
August 13 would be week #33

Yea! Just called ASKMINI and the automated system guy told me that my MCS is sheduled to be completed on 8/8/04!
Things are start'n now!
There are ships leaving the UK on the 10th, 13th, & 19th, any guesses on which ship she will be on?
