I've always thought flashing your lights was a signal that the fuzz was up ahead. It was your cue to get your car back within the legal speed limit. Maybe that's just a regional thing.

I flash, honk and wave. I get very little response. I have two thoughts: If I flash, honk and wave enough, maybe these un-spirited motorists will sell their MINI’s and buy a Focus or something else that’s lame. Or, instead flashing, honking and waving, I am just going to flip everyone off. Maybe I will get a response that way. :D

Someone did it back!!!!!!!! :D :D

Hurrah....yesterday afternoon I was driving up the M1 north and spotted a black "04" Mini (think the reg was ** 04 FLF) in the inside lane. He spotted me coming up behind him and as I went by I peered over to him and waved and guess what....he not only waved back but smiled too. :D :D :D

Fantastic....I laughed all the way to Coventry 'cos it had made my day!! :D :D :D

I have been guilty of not waving or flashing but only because I've seen them in time. I also feel a bit embaressed if I wave and don't get a reply. It's true there do seem to be fewer women who acknowledge you. :)

No, flashing CAN mean the same here in NY ("SLOW down"). That being said, it can also mean "Howdy", "Get the heck out of the left lane", and "Look at me. I'm imitating lightning!" :)

I just went into town, parked near another MINI (whoose owner seemed to be reading something on her lap) and walked into the shop. Then driver of the other car looked up and waved at me as I walked into the shop.

Now that's a result!!

I try to make eye contact with the owner before I wave. But, there are some definite grumpy owners out there.

First week of having the Mini i was getting no waves - my wife was driving one day and was parked in a garage getting petrol (or rather she got me to pump the fule/pay for it  ) - when i returned to the car from paying two minis passed flashing/waving like good uns, .......is it me? :p :D

As far as acknowledging other Minis....it's always a different signal depending on what my sense is. Sometimes if they're oncoming I'll flash, then wave as they pass. It's usually a mutual exchange about 50% of the time. Too bad. I have an S, and I gotta say, I find more of a kinship with other S-es than with regular Mini owners. Regardless, it's always one of those Zen, "OH, A MINI!!" moments. I really don't see that many of them during my long daily freeway commutes!

Went to Basingpoke yesterday with my oppo in the Car (his first Mini Adventure). I flashed 3 Minis with only one response and felt a bit of a ***t having made a big thing of the Mini camaraderie thing. :( Anyway, let him drive back (he now wants one but has some negotiation to be done with SWMBO) and he flashed a got a wave straight back the swine :p

Congratulations to Alec for his first Mini adventure!! :D :D

Unitl the end of August (or there abouts) when my new MCS arrives I must drive my Techno Blue Y2K Bug (2000 Beetle GLX). The past two days I have seen a different Techno Blue on each trip to and from work. One waved... I thought Beetle owners were supposed to be friendly like MINI owners are. I guess they have had as many problems with bugs in their Bugs as I have and are similarly upset.

I now find myself driving the MINI in this warm weather with the air con off and the window wound right down instead.

Why?

Just to be ready to give a really good wave when the opportunity arises. It's either that or squirt the windscreen by mistake :D

Everytime i wave/flash/toot I get a response, but I do get distracted by the fact it is another MINI and don't get the chance to wave/flash/toot, oops :D

I usually end up doing all three, blink then wave and all the while smiling!!! :)

I wave, flash, or smile depending upon how much time I have. That and whether or not I see the other MINI at all. Sometimes in traffic my wife sees many more MINIs than I do, as my concentration is on the road and protecting my baby from the idiots out there.

I don't have my Mini yet, so I just stalk them. One got on the freeway in front of me and was doing about 70mph. A little slower than I prefer to travel. I followed it anyway. Wife even made a comment about the fact that I had been on the freeway for 10 seconds and was not in the fast lane and doing 80 already. Maybe she has finally found a way to get me to slow down. Na, once I have mine, I wont have a reason to follow one.

had a few awkward moments myself when my wave wasn't returned...then decided it's not possible to feel embarrassed in a cr/w mini :D (actually any mini).

My mini is a boy and his name is Hamish. (Ben - not all cars are girls!!)
I think women are the worst offenders for not waving. Hamish has a bad habit of chasing after other minis, makes him hard to ignore though there are a few aloof, stuck up individuals who just give him the evil eye. We dont care and keep on waving!
(Hamish is driven by a 'girl')
:D :D :D :D

Bet you wind up following one in your new MINI anyway. They seem to have a natural tendancy to seek each other out and stick together. :D You'll see...

Yes I think you are definitely right there! They seem to have a homing device for other mins. Its a shame though when you come across drivers who totally blank you. Quite sad really. I agree with the comments that these people would be better suited to focuses. Sometimes you can appreciate other mins being too busy negotiating traffic to wave but you can also tell when you're being ignored. :bad:
Perseverence is the word ;) ;)

Although the title would be very long! :D you forgot.....

"Do you wave, smile or flash, or....ignore shamelessly, ignorant to the fact that you are driving unbeatable cool car! "

You know who they are - the ones that are too far up their own ass to realise what the mini is all about!

The worst is when you beep or flash and they sit their clueless .....never happened to me tho

I have to say I think it is the ladies who are the worse for not returning the flash or wave.....they all seem so stuck up!

Sorry if you are a waving lady......not many of us about I don't think, well certainly not in London

Hi Minnie, my car is Mickey! I find it is the men that do not wave....I seem to have trained the women up to wave in my neck of the woods!
Let me know if any ears come about....Mickey and Minnie sure need some!

Just bought a used MC this weekend. Already waved at the only two other Mini drivers I have seen (a white one with pink stripes in Lowestoft with a great looking girl driving, anyone know her?!?!) ;)

Got flashed by an old mini van but was unprepared to wave back.

Great community, cant wait to find a carpark where I can park next to another.
