: ASC+T Switch Rich C Jul 5th, 2004, 03:49 PM I've specced my car without ASC+T and was wondering what would be where the switch would normally be for this? Is it blank, or does it have a dummy switch? Thinking that if it's 'blank' there I may be able to get a switch from BMW and wire my garage door opener into it - any ideas?
If it's possible has anyone got the relevant part number? Cheers. hunkey dorey Jul 5th, 2004, 03:52 PM no u don't get a switch.... just a gap where it should be (second from the left in the line of toggles) !
as to wiring it in... sounds like a good idea, if a little complicated!.... sure someone on this site could give u some guidance! obehave Jul 6th, 2004, 01:31 AM Been done.
mikeythemini is THE man to ask. StevePSB Jul 6th, 2004, 01:08 PM The switch is part of the full switch panel unfortunately, so you'll have to buy one of those. Switch panel with ASC - £82.51 including VAT. Rich C Jul 7th, 2004, 02:23 PM Thanks Steve, might keep my eye open round the scrappies for a write off to pull one from - do like t idea of it being all nicely integrated rather than having to have th lumpy remote somewhere in the car. RobFriedman Aug 24th, 2004, 11:01 PM I have a Mini Cooper 03 that I got off the lot.. no ASC no Fogs..
I added the full switch panel (actually the ASC one) and have that the ASC uses the sensors that the ABs uses..
Anyone know if the ASC can be retrofitted??? for some reason.. only the DSC is available in the US... the MCs comes with the ASC... but the on the MC.. it's not an option!! I have something similar on my Saturn and it does help in the snow. So.. while I know about adding the foglights to the car.. retrofitting...
Can the same be done with the ASC????

Freeport, NY GBMINI Aug 24th, 2004, 11:10 PM You can get a full toggle panel, or if you are brave you can get a single toggle from someone who has broken up a panel, disassemble your panel, drill into the front piece, and mount the toggle.
The ASC/DSC position switches 12V when closed - if you have an opener powered by a 12V battery (some Genie openers have this in USA) you can use the 12V to power the opener - I did a harness long ago for Scooterboy that did exactly this, although he subsequently upgraded to a full MINI circuit (http://www.gbmini.net/MINIcircuit/) with the garage opener output part of it. RobFriedman Aug 25th, 2004, 01:34 AM Ian,
I dont think you were answering me.. maybe someone else..
I now have the full swicth set.. the ASC one with both fog switches.
I'm having the rear fogs activated... and looking into retrofitting the front fogs into my car...
I'm also curious is the ASC can be retro fitted in since it uses the same sensors as the ABS brakes. and is not normally available with the MC in the USA, I figure some box with harness or something like that...
R GBMINI Aug 25th, 2004, 01:51 AM Rob, you are correct - my answer was intended to answer the person that started this thread, "Rich C".
As for ASC, I don't have TIS installed since my hard drive replacement, but "MINI Complete" says:
ASC
The system is controlled by the ASC control unit (which replaces the ABS control unit) ... ASC is fitted as standard to MINI COOPER S and available as a factory fitted option on all other versions of MINI
The control unit (ABS or ASC or DSC) is mounted in the plenum chamber (I think this is under the hood vents) on the opposite side of the vehicle to the master cylinder ... the cylindrical part contains the electrically driven hydraulic pump; the plastic molded cover contains the electronic control unit; the aluminum body contains the hydraulic valves
So my guess is you could probably have ASC retrofitted, but it would an expensive part to be replaced. The DSC is similar but also has extra sensors put in the car ... stryder Aug 25th, 2004, 01:52 AM It might be possible to retrofit ASC, but it wouldn't be cheap, that I know of, I don't recall anyone doing it, but perhaps someone can look up the relevant parts.
ASC is standard on the MCS, its just that the packages/options in the US only let you buy DSC. (which I agree doesn't make sense, but there are a fair amount of MCS' with only ASC running around on US roads) GBMINI Aug 25th, 2004, 01:55 AM ASC is standard on the MCS, its just that the packages/options in the US only let you buy DSC. The DSC is part of the sports package on MCS - but you are not forced to buy the sports package (unless of course you are buying off the lot and that is the configuration). You can easily order the individual items of a package (for example, I ordered everything in the sports package - xenons, front fogs, DSC - except for the 17" wheels, even though this way the wheels would have been only something like $30 extra) RobFriedman Aug 25th, 2004, 02:02 AM ok. I'm game.. whats the "TIS" and "MINI Complete"??? GBMINI Aug 25th, 2004, 02:21 AM ok. I'm game.. whats the "TIS" and "MINI Complete"???
Sorry.
"TIS" (and indeed "ETK") is the software that the techs run on the computers in the MINI dealership. You regularly see them for sale on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7918113501&category=34211&sspagename=WDVW) (these are of course not generally official copies). There is also an online version (http://www.minitis.com) (which is official but costs $25/day!)
"MINI Complete" is a big spiral bound book, as used on MINI tech training - you might see one in the MINI service bays sometimes. You can buy it here (http://www.centrallettershop.com/bmw_frameset.html) (click "Service") but it costs $95! | |
