: what does a new reg mean?? Shockwave_Factory Jul 6th, 2004, 07:11 PM Ok i ordered my Cooper S and found out that it will be with the dealer Auguest the 13th. Now i am very tempted to just pick the car up as soon as possible, but i have a few questions!!
Does a new reg add any value to your car??
Will it make my insurnace go up??
Thanks to anyone how replys!! MukiMunki Jul 6th, 2004, 07:23 PM Could be worth £500 or so.
Insurance? Nah. Well, unlikely anyway. McprS Jul 7th, 2004, 08:47 AM IMHO since the gov changed to 2 plates year instead of 1 I dont think its a big issue your car will be 04 not 54 so its still a 2004 car, might be different if it was 53 instead of 04. minisoopercooper Jul 7th, 2004, 08:57 AM its all the same difference
I think its the build year that makes more diiference - ie my car is a 53 but an 04 build and even more importantly the sticker in the engine bay says built Jan 04.

So let me get this staright, my plate isn't going to actually be different??
Can some one explain how the plates work, i have never taken the time to ask about them!! northandy Jul 7th, 2004, 09:51 AM So let me get this staright, my plate isn't going to actually be different??

New plate numbers come out on the 1st March and 1st September.....
So on the 1st March 2004 we got 04.... and then on the 1st Sept 2004 we'll get 54.... March 1st 2005 will be 05 etc etc....
I do agree with Munki that it will make a slight difference when it comes to trade in as the Glasses guide qoutes prices by plate 04 v's 54 ( i believe ! ).... i would think more in the region of 200/300 quid.... if its only a couple of weeks I'd wait !... but then thats just me !! I probably will wait, just making sure the extra wait is worth it, as i want my car!!! lol northandy Jul 7th, 2004, 11:30 AM I probably will wait, just making sure the extra wait is worth it, as i want my car!!! lol
I know that feeling I waited 7 months for mine !!!.... I almost went crazy ! Mini Ted Jul 8th, 2004, 02:48 AM If you can hold on I would, the financial benefit is one thing but also (unless you put a PP on) you will have 6 months of driving a car with the latest plate. It’s not a big thing, just 3 weeks after you purchase the car it will be labelled 6 months old.
The extra waiting will be character building! :D

Ted
Trouble is Ted is this is the third wait i have had for a mini now, i am only 21 and think all this waiting with the mini is going to give me gray hairs!! :D
I would have thought that i would have got use to the wait by now, but the S is the worse waitof all, i have been waiting to get my hands on an S since the first time i saw it!! SoggyCornFlakes Jul 8th, 2004, 11:21 AM Both my MINIs were with the dealer in August and I waited until September 1st to get them, in fact the first one was driven to my place on trade plates on the 31st August and I had to promise not to drive it until the 1st Sept.
It deos make a difference in value - as has been sugessted just look at Galss's guide - and bear in mind dealers will also allow for it come trade in time.
But above that, it is just great to drive out with the new plate on it's first day of issue - a little bit of feel good factor :) SoggyCornFlakes Jul 8th, 2004, 11:22 AM and depending where you are you might want to join the Middlesex MINI Maniacs on their new reg run ;) Martin L Jul 8th, 2004, 11:49 AM 03 to 53 doen't make a huge difference in price maybe £200 at most, but 53 to 04 is more significant at around £500. It's really up to you if you want to hold out or not.
Like Soggy I held out last year for a couple of weeks to get a 53 plate just for the kudo of driving a new reg car
We're just a pair of snobs :p :D :D RobHardyUK Jul 8th, 2004, 11:57 AM im lucky cos mine due to waiing list wlil be a 54 anyways SoggyCornFlakes Jul 8th, 2004, 12:18 PM We're just a pair of snobs :p :D :D
Well we're only pseudo snobs as we didn't get the JCW kit ;) Washy Jul 8th, 2004, 12:20 PM I'm getting a bit tired of this anti JCW stuff.... SoggyCornFlakes Jul 8th, 2004, 12:23 PM hmmphhh  Shamster Jul 8th, 2004, 12:29 PM and depending where you are you might want to join the Middlesex MINI Maniacs on their new reg run ;)
Ah - you beat me to it! Thanks Soggmeister :) .
I'll put a thread up next week about the new reg run in September - 'old' reg's will be welcome too though! ;) :p
There will be a slight difference in price on an Aug vs Sep reg but this will be eroded more and more by age. If you keep the car for say 5 years the condition and history will have much more of an impact than if its an Aug or Sep reg. M111 CGC Jul 8th, 2004, 05:02 PM Ignore the 04/54 debate - buy a cheap £250 private plate from the DVLA and get driving your car early!! | |
